The transfer window opens early, closes early, and we have the world cup in between, their is simply not time to buger about with watford, silver was an option but their are many other good candidates, let's move on and pick one, or get left with the dreges, paying over the top for players that no other top club wants.

It's not about just getting someone else, get Silva signed sod Watford and get on with the job, what will be with Watford will be, that won't change even if we signed someone else, this has been going on for months behind the scenes, Watford are just taking the piss, they were offered money but now want even more, which to be honest is totally wrong, they sacked him and that's nothing to do with us, yes there form slipped but that's due to the players as well, we weren't in control of what they did, all sounds abit of sour grapes as we have now got him for nothing, it's sounds like they did what ever we are supposed to have done to Watford they did to hull, so will be intresting to see the out come, if silva comes to us and obvously has given information about what watford did to hull, sounds like watford could be playing with fire, our chiarmen isn't a mug and i'm sure they no where they stand, he won't put us in a situation where we will be fined and deducted points. but maybe he feels after supposedly offering 12million and having that rejected that the FA may fine us a lot less and it's better going threw them.

Two good shouts in the papers today: Fabhino and Phillip Max. We need a CB obviously any suggestions. Would love Koulibaly but think he is out of sight now. Lascelles would be a good signing in my opinion. Shaquiri would be a cheap option.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 May 2018 20:57:06
most of they above would be great, but, Shaquiri, is very talanted, be also extremly lazy, one good game in five and thinks defending is not in his job description.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 22:23:31
The Newcastle lad would be our level and a big improvement. Seems like a bit of a dependable character too.

I'd also have the Swansea guy. That'd be CB fixed for a good few years that. With Holgate Keane a u23 option, should be fine.

I was up for Shaquiri but If we bought another "floater" (Not sure if my pun is intended) like Sigurddson is going to just add to problems of an unbalanced squad.

Good player but I don't think he is required. Sounds like a bit of a git too.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:08:41
I know what yous mean wih Shaquiri but would be a bargain price and an upgrade on bolasie if we can get rid and play lookman and vlasic more. Any names to throw in the hat for a winger?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2018 00:13:41
Bolasie is terrible.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2018 09:10:14
I personally wouldn't want him, I think we need a more productive player with better work rate, yeah he's good on his day but I think in that stoke side anyone could look good, full of one dimensional players,

Agree1 Disagree0

19 May 2018 19:49:08
Bolaiase was returning from a long injury. Sometimes it takes a pre season to see the best in these circumstances give him next season to prove his worth. That said he was very poor and lazy which cannot continue.

18 May 2018 17:30:15
. Well, it seems West Ham have chosen Pellegrini as they cannot persuade Benitez. so that puts us in with a great chance of trying to go all out for Rafa, as for me he's the standout contender for the job. perfect for our project and will propel us into the top 4 within 2 seasons!

Believable7 Unbelievable5

I don't think rafa would work with Brands. He wants full control of signings. Hence why he left Liverpool. I do believe he's a top manager though.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 18:51:05
Rafa’s biggest grumble has been lack of funds. Most managers work with DOFs now. I’d be happy with Rafa, his record speaks for itself. As does Emery’s. What is Silva’s record?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - very decent actually bluey, google it mate and it may put you at ease mate..

18 May 2018 20:34:10
Other than Hull and watford it isn’t bad really and you could say he didn’t have the greatest squad at Hull and if yiu factor in with it going to pot at Watford he has some good stats.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think its better than some are saying ST..

18 May 2018 21:40:32
Bluerobbo he did not leave Liverpool because of transfer control, it was a personality issue. Brands and Benitez are both cut from the same cloth, they would be brilliant together. Benitez is a class act, it is that simple. Do your research on Silva and it is plain the bloke has not matured yet. I keep reading look at Silvas resume and history, well yeah of course I have and not impressed. If you need more managerial names then, sorry about that.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 May 2018 23:57:47
Silva's record is decent but not in the Premiership and that is not me being negative, that is being factual. I want a Manager that we are not going to sack once he hits a rocky road because we know he has the ability to recover. Silva took Hull down and had no answer to Watfords demise (they used us as an excuse) so was sacked. Martinez was hired on the strength of his FA Cup win (the guy took Wigan down and they are only just recovering) and Koeman on his name.

I think it was Ed002 that said Mr Moshri needed to take advice from a knowledgable source, he appears to have done that and now it would seem we are at last moving forward. The most important signing for me is a proven successful DoF and the involvement of Raola (a very good friend of Brands apparently) . Brands will have a major input into our next Manager which is important, if that turns out to be Silva then I bow to knowledge greater than mine.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 May 2018 09:14:45
I do love when people write about Silva who have no idea what he did before he came to the premiership, at hull they were struggling and he made them a better team he just could keep them up, first season so you can forgive him for that, at Watford he had them flying and everyone was talking about how well they were playing, But saying that at the time they were on a bad run they had what I read 13 first team players out injured, now anyone at any team will struggle with that.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - some just look for negatives simon, i think they just want to say "i told you so" if things go tits up mate..

I heard the two most pathetic things listened to talk sport taking the missus to work and they were talking about who's a bigger club West Ham or Newcastle so the presenter said West ham because of their history (I agree with that) and they are from London wow hold your horses so being in the capital makes you a bigger club I thought I heard it all then a Newcastle fan came on and he said Newcastle are the bigger club as Ed Sheeran is playing at st James park in the summer ha ha in that case we must be the biggest club in the world as our club starred in a Hollywood blockbuster I'm actually lost for words for the record I believe West Ham to be the bigger club.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 May 2018 22:27:53

In my book the team that won the top flight 4 times and the FA cup 6 is bigger than the team that's never won the top flight and only 3 FA cups.
Maybe ironically you are subconsciously adding up London and coming up with your answer?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2018 09:19:08
What has Newcastle ever done, having a big following or what ever doesn't make you a big club, West ham have history, the teams that have made history stay in the top flight are big clubs, if we want to go back 100 years the top flight would look a lot different, are all those who have slipped down the leagues still big clubs today, NO different time different game.

While David Moyes certainly wouldn't be my first choice as our new manager, I feel some Blues here have short memories . We aren't the club now that we were in 2002 when Moyes joined our great club . Moyes and Kenwright transformed us from perennial relegation candidates to top six and even a 4th place . All that was done on a shoestring . Kenwright provided stability and gave complete control to Moyes, and unlike previous chairmen didn't take any cash out of the club . The work done by both made Everton attractive to FM to come in and invest as heavily as he has . Sadly as this season has shown just throwing cash around isn't enough . Like Farhad I am looking forward not back, but let's give them both the credit they deserve .

I can not ever see why we have slagged that man off, he left to go man Utd, who wouldn't, he made us a top team who could compete against any team, and all that with hardly any money, we had managers who couldn't do anything and he came along and he was in my opinion our savour, he made us a team that people liked, he made us the people's team, he found good players and honestly believe if we had a lukaku when we had our best years we would of been right up there, he just couldn't find that striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its the way he left simon, still taking our money when having agreed to join united and coming back for our players saying that they need to move to a bigger club and all that, it showed a total lack of respect and i could not wait to get rid of the git to be honest mate..

18 May 2018 11:56:24
Hi ed what your opinion i think he good manager not who was my first choice as he doesn't tend to stick around anywe're long but he plays good football. His win percentage is actually 1% better then potch was at Southampton. He feels very much like another martinez way set up his team hoepfully with having experience in prem he won't be as nieve defensively. Think brands is great appointment as he actually is dof and had experience which walsh didn't.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im happy with them 2 bretto, of course we will still get the moaners who think we should get all the top managers falling over themselves to join us but we are in the real world mate..

Brands will be identifying the players to play a certain style. A style which Silva will agree with too. What Brands won't do is accept a situation where we are shipping goals. So I don't see an issue with Silvas previous record as he hasn't worked with a DOF at Watford or Hull.
If we are loose at the back, I am sure they will work together to shore things up or bring in a player to shore things up.

Look across the park to a team scoring for fun but leaking goals. A slight change of tact and a quality signing and they are pretty tight at the back now.

Just a quick stat for those saying Silva isn't good enough because he has a relegation on his C. V., well a certain Mr Benitez who some fans, myself included, would like at Everton also has a relegation on his C. V.
Let's get behind the philosophy and the football Silva likes to play and forget the relegation with Hull, all due respect we are Everton not Hull, this is a job that Marco fancies and believes he can make a success of so let's support him and not condemn him before he has even set his stapler down on his desk.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

18 May 2018 15:39:24
I read a lot of good things about Silva, he's liked by a lot of people and has an attacking style that has worked abroad, I think if he comes to Everton he needs the players in and quick and to have a good pre season so Everton can start on the front foot, so much negative football will be hard to shift mentally, hope brand cam find some diamonds, problem is it all sounds like last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:59:11
The catch there Simontoffee is a style that works abroad. Look I am not trying to be a sour grapes whinger but the facts and stats speak for themselves. At Hull and Watford he had win stats in the low 30's. This after having initial attacking success until the opposition worked it out. With Martinez and us it took a Season and a half and to be fair the Second season with Europe we were not deep enough in positional strength. Couple that with Martinez stubborness in not caring how many the opposition score as long as we score more and the project was doomed to failure. Koeman never bought into the project in the first place. Dare I say that at Hull and then Watford, Silva has been along the lines of a Martinez and far to similar for my liking. Ed025 aligned me with negativity, I prefer to be called a realist and believe me I do not want to be one of those that says 'I told you so'.

Agree0 Disagree2

Just read an interesting stat about Lookman. He scored 5 goals in 11 appearances giving him the second best goals to game ratio behind Lewandowski! While Lookman was doing this we had to watch our one trick pony Bolasie add as much spark as a wet flint. I for one hope this kid is a regular starter next season as he has talent to be successful.

I agree 100%

It will be interesting to see if the fans believe the new gaffer in regard to players.

We have several players not performing and not selected but fans are so suspicious of the coach, we have ruled out their opinions and are still calling for some players to be given a chance. Will this make 4th chance for some?

Anyway it will be great to have a boss who commands some respect from us lot. It's got a bit Mad Max recently. I'm looking forward to performance improvements, but also to fan v club improvements. Goodison was an embarrassment this last 12 months. Let's get her rocking again as it's what we're famous for. Give the old girl the last few years with the roof blown off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thinking of Hull's relegation under Silva is the same as thinking that Allardyce's time at Everton was a success, for me. Neither exist in a vacuum: On paper, SA finishing 8th and getting results is a positive, but we all know how dire the football was, and his off-field comments were arrogant and condescending towards both fan and player. Hull's relegation under Silva can't be forgotten, but take in to account how close he got to saving them, the negativity that surrounded the club, players available and I think he did as good a job as he could.

For me, Silva's eventual appointment will be exciting, with a justified degree of caution; that, teamed with Moshiri's ambition, Brands' know-howand lessons learnt from last Summer, will be great!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

18 May 2018 15:09:04
I agree with you Hugofc. He came very close to saving Hull and certainly got the best out of Niasse who scored goals for them. Watford were playing good football and I believe 5th in the league when we became interested. The rest we know is history. I strongly believe he will surprise a lot of people.

Agree4 Disagree0

18 May 2018 20:36:46
What he did at Hull was near on amazing.
Yeah the still went down but his results were incredible. The goals for was very good but unfortunately he ran out of games. Appointed too late. Only a fool could give him a hard time their.

Watford again for me were a club I picked for the drop. until I saw they got Silva. They had a pretty great start too. And he was clearly the next big thing all of a sudden.

Yes we approached and it's obvious it wasn't a welcome approach and maybe just maybe we will (deservedly? ) Be in hot water for it? But i bet a few others had a sniff too.

Who knows if he will be a major success? So long as he reinvents our status in football cos it's dire at the minute. Ex pros calling us arrogant for getting shot of a man who got us from trouble to 8th. It looks an easy argument. And in some respects maybe some have gone too far but we all saw it coming.

The new guy deserves support and patience.
We also have to remember that it's not all on the manager these days. FM BK and DOF are all responsible. Certainly for everything off the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 21:54:40
Myteam, a fool! He won 7 lost 10. At 36 percent ratio no where near saving Hull. Look at Watford 30 percent. Those are the facts in the English Premier League. Our league is rightly described as the toughest in the World, surely our Managerial standards should be the same. Silva Sporting Lisbon something like 53 percent, what does that tell you compared with above.

Totally agree with you jcwblue. He's won trophys yes a cup in Portugal and a league in Greece where the football is that poor I reckon I'd get a game myself. The only thing we can judge him on is what he's done in the premier league where's sorry to say he's a proven failure.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 May 2018 15:10:49
As we say all to frequently, you can only beat what's in front of you. He won the Portugese cup with Portugese level resources and the Greek league with Greek level resources. His teams were at the level they were and he won trophies.
My support for any manager is contingent on him showing that there is a reasonable plan to improve the team in both results and performances. I think all fans can take set backs if they see that things are going in the right direction.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 May 2018 16:36:54
I am not a fan of Silva but I will support him as I supported Sam because whoever is manager we should support out team through the good and the bad.

I do not expect miracles as long as we move in the right direction.

Silva took over a Hull team that was going so n and they went down. Benitez took over a Newcastle team that was going down and they went down. Not much difference from what I can see. Granted Benitez has managed at bigger clubs, but Madrid had all the money in the world and he was hardly strapped for cash at Liverpool. Silva's has success abroad with teams in more competitive leagues with a lesser budget. I’d take either.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:30:57
I have to say it's slightly embarrassing for the people giving Silva grief for getting relegated with Hull.

If almost go so far as calling you clueless about football.

18 May 2018 11:54:31
I am amazed that Moshiri has not looked on this site. There appears to be loads of managers on here who know exactly what team is needed and who we should get rid of. As for signings, they are able to get players in at the drop of a hat and move players on who may be quite happy with the contracts they have with us and want to stay and fight for their places. But hey ho, these people know much more about football than some of the managers who have been involved for donkey's years.

I think every fan is a manager Degsyp including yourself everyone has an idea of who they would buy and sell and what first 11 they will use and that's what makes football great because everyone has their own ideas and reasons for choosing them let's hope this season we get it right because I have a lot of deluded reds who firmly believe they are full of world class players and have a world class manager and I really want to close the gap on the top 6 and try to catch them.

I have toadmit it guys. it was a tongue in cheek moment. but some seem to think it is just pick this and that player and get rid of this and that player when sometimes the complications of things make it much more difficult that appears on the surface. eg if a player is performing poorly but is on a fantastic contract. he might not want to leave. whereas a player at another club might have a missus who is dead gogeous but wants to live in London. Or another who wants Champions League football. But the way some fans seem to suggest we get rid of player "a" and sign player "b" seem to not understand the complexities.

Benitez is the best man for the job.
He won't come and I hate saying it. It's been really hard to be objective with Rafa for clear reasons. In the last 2 weeks I've flipped 100% to Rafa. He is clearly the best candidate for where we are.

I'd almost say he was risk free too. You could almost guarantee he would crack 6th in 1st season. And bloody a few to grab top 4 in a year or 2.
You'd know he was doing alright when he falls out with Klopp, Mourinho and Pep again. Whilst he's no threat it's all love and kisses.

Not sure why I got thumbs down but we need a manager who will stay for a long time and build an identity and a set style of play from the youth team's to the first team. That way players can be brought in due to injuries and suspension and know how to play the system. Similar to what Wenger did at arsenal or klippety klopp over the park. Whether it be Silva or a n other. We need a long term plan not short term solution like Sam.

Really hope we have a good clearout of "players" now. Get rid of all that negativity that's been around the club. And sorry but Rooney has to go, far to slow now for this level. Need pace in the midfield with at least two attacking players in there.
Would like to see a four, four, two formation, and would have Gana as the holding midfielder. Oh and Lookman has to be brought back, kids going to be massive talent.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

18 May 2018 11:10:23
442 far too old school in order to play fast pressing game like top teams to defend from the front you need to have either 3 or 4 players up front to close down opposition.

Agree0 Disagree2

18 May 2018 11:16:46
why is everybody so desperate to stick it to Rooney? Yes he's not the superstar he once was, and if he stays then it's best that he's an impact sub. But he showed such passion last season, got a decent amount of goals including the stunner against West Ham, and let's be honest, without his contribution we very well could have been in a squeaky bum situation at the end of the season.
I do think he should move to USA yes, but please give him a little respect.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 May 2018 16:38:13
It's not having a lack of respect, its reality. He is to slow and his best days are behind him sadly.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:40:55
He was a our best player in the stats. But that's hardly a bench mark that's fair to him or us as fans or the club.

But he is doing exactly what he did at Utd for 3 years. Mostly getting in the way and giving the opposition as many goals -shots as he makes the other end.

He's a game thrower waiting to happen. It's not that he's slow (He is, I actually never credited him with any pace) but he sort of intimidates the younger players and I think it's just an emotional decision that clouds lots of fans.

He isn't good enough. I'd like him to stay as a coach or something but he wants to play still. Let him go I say. Especially if we can make a few quid too.

I'm optimistic about club now. I think we will hugely benefit from no Europa league. Coleman and Baines being fit from the start. Pickford playing in World Cup is ok and glad mori there too as could do with few more games. Gueye could have done with a rest but good luck to him.

I think Kane might be much improved with Baines Coleman and mori in settled back 4 with hollgate and Kenny also benefitting from that when they get chance.

Midfield is a bit off a mess with far too many players - I'm hoping a few move on.

I think we will get another forward with Tolson and start kicking on.

I think arsenal and Chelsea are in a bit of a mess - 2 or three good windows with quality rather than quantity could see us looking at top 5-6 rather than 7-8.

I agree gb. It's just if we can get buyers for them after the season they had.

Sure Brands will help do that mate.

In think this window will be very important, we need to learn from this season, where the weakness was and mend it, if we only need 2 players then so be it, but if I'm honest I think we need at least 5 in and 5 out.

Morning Blues/ Ed's

Im going to stick my neck out and say Silva to sign today.

Although it's nice for some fans to see their club's players in the World Cup squads, I am glad that only 4 Everton players - Pickford (England) , Funes Mori (Argentina) , Gueye (Senegal) and Sigurdsson (Iceland) - will have their Summer disrupted by involvement.
I want all of our players to be refreshed and avaiable for a full pre-season under the new manager - and having just 4 senior players coming back late (probably) is good imho.

100 million transfer kitty, 6 million a year, total control over transfers. Benitez terms for West Ham Manager. Come on Mr Moshri/ Brands we can easily match that and certain Benitez would work in harmony with Brands - mutual respect. If Sam is worth 6 mill, Benitez has to be worth at least double that. One thing is certain is that Benitez is an upgrade on the touted favourite (Silva) .

{Ed025's Note - i dont get all this negativity towards silva you know DFS, good young up and coming manager and very well thought of by all the experts, i dont know what evertonians want anymore we are not an elite club anymore and the top names will not be coming (not that raffa is one of these), cant we just be happy that we are moving on and look forward to the future without slagging the guy off before we have even appointed him?, its not just you mate but why cant we just be happy that the club is moving forward and we learn to walk before we can run..

18 May 2018 07:11:19
👏👏👏👏👏 well said mate, totally agree.

With you on that Ed mate let’s greet whoever we get and give him a couple of seasons to sort out our. sorry mess, and above all get behind him and look forward to the good times.

{Ed025's Note - its a step in the right direction GB and and after the last 6 months i think we should be doing handstands mate..

18 May 2018 07:20:02
Sorry. I will of course add that if it is Silva, I will back him to the hilt and rather than with Alardyce (he was always a stop gap) , believe he should be given time even if that means finishing outside the top 6 for a couple of seasons as long as we can see we are going in the right direction.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats all im advocating DFS, lets give the guy a chance and not be defeatist before we give him a shot, it was not a dig at you personally mate but at the negativity that seems to be plaguing this club at the moment..

18 May 2018 07:33:16
I think the signing of Marcel Brands will be the most important thing we have done.

I think ALL of the managers that have been talked about are refreshing and exciting.

Personally, I like Silva as he has experience of building a club up from the bottom and getting it to the top. He's also a winner in more than one country meaning he's adaptable.

I have no doubt we disrupted his time at Watford when they were doing well so I can give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't like Benetez as a man and is as arrogant as Sam. He's a good manager but I'm a bit sick of all the old school ones now and would like to see us move into this new era with a more forward thinking outlook.

Whoever it is though I am sure he will have a more progressive type of football and hopefully the board have learned a valuable over the past 6 months.

If Rafa wants total control over transfers then he will not be coming to Everton as surely the recruitment falls under Brands job description? Maybe this is why he has not been mentioned or considered.

18 May 2018 09:33:02
BlueJohnsUns I have to disagree reg Rafa being arrogant as I have met the man and he was a cracking fella both winding each up other Liverpool and Everton he was on a tour of Alder Hey and he even came back to say bye but I agree with bluegray87 Rafa won't come because he likes to have final say on transfers and I'm more than happy with Silva before he joined Hull he had a 70% win rate at Olympiacos and did very well in Portugal taking a team from the second tier to the premiership and a cup win.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 May 2018 10:36:13
Maybe Blue. I've not met him personally. However, saying he cleaned up Jose's mess at Chelsea and Real after he'd won most trophies out there and calling us a small club probably just makes him stupid rather than arrogant. Either way I'm not overjoyed at someone coming in who said that about us.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 May 2018 10:40:40
Yes I like him, but his demands mean nothing, it's all about the money, I would have him here.

bluejohn 12 months ago I would of agreed but as of today I will be happy with 1 of Silva emery or Rafa all different coaches who will bring something different to the table one thing is for sure this close season is the biggest on our history.

My contention is that Silva is unproven and for me far to like Martinez (another who at the time I and others warned about) . We need someone that will command respect. If we want a young and upcoming Manager how about home grown such as Dyche. Benitez it is for me though, the guy has done it and more importantly knows how the game works and knows what it takes to succeed.

After the last 6 months of football served up by Allerdyce I would have my missus as manager. If it's Silva let's get behind him . I have a feeling that he is going to surprise us.

18 May 2018 17:07:41
The problems with Silva is not his tactics or style but apparently brings problems where ever he goes. (or so i've heard. )

whoever becomes manager, there’ll be some discontented fans. Their views are valid and honestly held, so I’m not criticising them.
What I will point out is that our two most successful (trophy-winning) managers - Harry Catterick and Howard Kendall - had fans calling for their sacking on some occasions, but the club stood firm and reaped the benefit.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 23:51:51
Some of our fans are starting to sound like ones at other clubs. wanting change all the time for change sake. We need some stability now. With maybe a couple of signings. Wholesale changes is not what we need. Look what happened last season with 5 new players coming in.

It's good to be back. I suggested Blanc sometime ago and I still stand by that. He has premier league experience as a player and plays a good brand of European football, and is very meticulous. Roy Keane always respected him calling him a consummate professional. He also has a good rep so could attract some good players.
What do you thinks Ed's.

{Ed007's Note - Roy Keane is one of the most perfect example of human evolution ever seen on earth in the past 200 years, we should all strive to be more Keane-like and the world would be a better place - but he's a bit of a nutcase underneath all that charm and charisma.}
