Well it looks like 5th would be as much as we could get now. Real shame because I think two signings in Jan - a striker and midfielder- would have been enough to achieve not just top four, but a cup final as well. May not get another chance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let me see 15 points to play for and 4 points off 4th and you think it is all over no way is it over were still in it. Stef the blue {Ed025's Note - write us off at your peril..

Agree0 Disagree0

Fat lady? What fat lady?

We are just clearing our throats for the.

Finale :)

Blue247 {Ed025's Note - love it 247..

Agree0 Disagree0

If the Arse win four of their remaining games then there's nothing we can do. And chelski look out of sight. We can only do our job and hope they drop points. It's a tough ask but not impossible. I still believe.

Post on here a few days ago saying 'we won't go back in for Fer, he was third choice after m'villa and capoue' I hope we go back in for him, he hasn't missed a game yet for Twente and now I watch everyone of their games that I can, and he impresses me, strong, fast, aggressive, works hard and is just overall a very good midfielder. After last night I have lost a lot of respect for Wilshere and Arteta after the way they acted, but let's focus on Everton F. C and push on and try to get european football next year, COME ON!.

COYB!

Can anyone tell me why the Everton youth team games never feature on any streaming sites like Firstrow or Roja Directa etc.? Always come across other EPL youth team games, but never Everton.

I know this is a longshot and people may not remember, but when our youth team lost in the FA Cup to Norwich a few weeks back, can anyone remember a player for Norwich called Henry Randall and if so, did he come one/play well?

Reason I ask is because I played against him 3 years back in a school match and he was awesome haha.

Ed what would your starting 11 be for next season including realistic signings and departures

And I don't mean who are we linked with etc. just what team would you like

And what would all the rest of you like to be out starting 11 {Ed025's Note - i would add aldewield, negrado, honda and fer, to last nights team, but would have to think about the formation..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you think that's realistic Ed? {Ed025's Note - not really, but 1 or 2 of them would be nice..

Agree0 Disagree0

So your team ed would be

Howard

Coleman Jags Aldewield Distin Baines

Mirallas Gibson Fer Fellaini Pienaar

Barkley

Honda Negredo Anichebe

Should win the league with that team, don't know what the opposition will make of it mind.

Mike {Ed025's Note - i might drop vic mike :)..

Agree0 Disagree0

That's not so unrealistic if you look at it this way. Fellaini sold for £25m, Honda £5m, Fer £8m. Negredo £10m (Sevilla put a £13m price tag on him in January to deter bids and are in financial difficulties) and Alderweireld £7m? £30m surely BK can afford to give him £5m out of tv cash. Only problem would be wages but Nev and Felli are on substantial wages so it's not so implausible. But then again this is Everton. With those additions we could fight it out for 3rd place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have the rules changed? Since when have you been allowed 15 players in one team. {Ed025's Note - we are playing rugby union next season.....according to wenger..we played it last night...lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey, come on I know Jags likes to hoof it a lot but we're not quite stoke city yet. They're a real rugby team. I heard Owen is unsettled and is thinking of retiring only because they promised they'd play him scrum-half but he's been playing more as an inside centre

All these commentators don't alf favour the 'bigger' sides that challenge on de gea was not Carroll fault someone jumped into him which made Carroll go straight into de gea. And yesterday they commentators struggled to give us a compLiment in the first half when we had a lot of Posession it's not we are good it's arsenal haven't started

Great performance last night very positive line up barkley was great apart from couple mistakes we have to give him games but the boy is talented and strong enough for premier league physically first team next season that's for sure looking at the table we are still in this big time while we have hard games so do others starting tonight Chelsea v Fulham is not a straight forward match so let's hope Fulham can take a point or all three but this weekend we must beat Sunderland as spurs play man city and Chelsea play Liverpool one things for sure all the sides playing for top 4 will drop points so we need to win our games and see where it takes us only a week or so ago and all pundits were saying spurs are in pole position for 4 would not say that now and they are starting to stutter a little could they be having bad patch and let's not forget we play Chelsea last match what a game that could be let's hope we are still involved {Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

despite the apparent "rough" tactics that we deployed last night, I believe last night was a sign that we may be able to take this bunch of players to the next level.

Fellaini bangs on about how he should be playing central midfield week in week out, but last night and the majority of times he plays there, he does no more than any of our other midfielders and I personally think another midfielder around his 25 million price range would have a much bigger impact.

When he plays up top its clear to see we lump it up to him and avoid playing any football, for me shift him on, particularly as he appears to be in high demand, and bring in a strong midfielder who can carry the ball ie Fer, a creative midfielder ie Honda, a pacy winger to replace Pienaar in a few years ie Mertens and then a top quality striker ie Negredo

Its hugely unrealistic to expect all of those names above, however I would suspect Mertens and Negredo would be available for a combined price around the Fellaini fee. I know which I would prefer

That's what we need to take it to the next step, the defence is shining recently, the majority of the midfield ie Gibson and Mirallas are performing well, just 2 or 3 quality players and we can then consistently mix it with the big boys

Alex

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When have you ever heard Fellaini bang on about playing in Central Midfield, it's your mates and the papers that bang on, not Felli.

So the FA are not going to take any further action over the Wilshire/Mirallas incident.

Well of course not, they are hardly going to punish the new Golden Boy of English football now are they. Just like they never punished Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney or Terry despite numerous examples of unsportsmanlike behaviour on the pitch over the years!

Think Wilshire should be embarrassed about his reaction, I mean come on it was only a bit of water ffs!
He was in the refs face moaning from the first time somebody tackled him, some players need to realise that it is not GBH every time someone makes contact with them!

aflm78 {Ed025's Note - i lost a lot of respect for him aflm, he acted like a 12yr old girl last night..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just remember it was lucozade

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because it said Lucozade on the bottle doesn't mean there was Lucozade in the bottle! The tv website says water though perhaps that's because they don't want to advertise a product for free, however they could have said that he squirted 'an energy drink' at him.

Not sure what diff it makes really unless you are suggesting Lucozade has acidic qualities, and therefore is potentially dangerous if it gets in your eyes? Thereby justifying Wilshire's childish reaction!

Or are you just being pedantic for the sake of it? If so. how very sad of you!

reading some of todays newspaper reports and listening to wengers comments everton have turned into the dirty leeds sides of the 60s and 70s. yes we can mix it with the best of them when needed to, but to say we are a dirty over physical team is bang outta order, some of our performances this season playing free flowing football ie. swansea, villa away were a joy to watch. I agree with you ed wenger didn't mind it when viera petit and keown and bould would leave there mark down somones shin. southern jessies don't like it up em.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wenger learned how to manipulate the press (and in doing so also the FA) from Sir Alex F. How many times does he not see the incident when it's one of his players, but sees everything the other team does!

im surprised wiltshire didn't throw himself to the floor when that lucozade hit him, and then arteta could have ran over to the ref complaining, I've never known such a bunch of pampered big girls, maybe the fa should make it illegal to tackle arsenal players keep wenger happy.
ste c {Ed025's Note - or let them play in a red suit of armour.. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger whingeing, don't remember him whingeing when Adams, Keown, Viera and co were dishing it out - and they were winning things - or in fact being able to see what they got up to.
Whats also peed me off is all the reports about a combative, muscular, robust or 'Dogs of War' performance last night. We played some decent stuff at times, and Arsenal were not above leaving their foot in, or hitting it long for Walcott to chase and fall over. {Ed025's Note - im with you mate..

I think we should have a go at that Christian Eriksen from ajax. Good player out of contract in the summer {Ed025's Note - some of the really big fish are lining him up mate,..

I think Baines is the player we needto hold on to. He is top class and i'm my eyes the best LB around. He would ne unreplaceable. However if he did go I think Schennikov would be a suitable replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cant see Baines leaving anytime soon. Fellaini will be the one to leave to allow us to rebuild.

Baines is far too important for us to let him go, and his value to us outweighs what clubs would be willing to stump up. I'd imagine we would want 15-20mil at least for him, and I can't see any team stumping up that cash for a 28/29yr old LB.

Read this Quote from Moysie from last night. Class!

Wenger believed that midfielder Darron Gibson, who has already been booked, should have been sent off for a foul on Theo Walcott.

But asked about Wenger's comments, Moyes said: "Do you mean when we were a little bit rough with the tackling? Up north we do that quite often. That's actually allowed in football.

Good performance last night, just unfortunately what would have been a great result in, say, November, has turned out just to be an average one, purely because we could of really done with the win. Alas, it's not last night's result that will probably cost us a champs' league place, but the numerous dropped points vs the likes of Reading, Norwich, Fulham and more, though i'm sure a lot of teams will think the same. That said, where there's life there's hope, so if we keep performing as we can then you just never know. On another point, I found it embarrassing that Arsenal resorted to falling to the ground at the slightest touch (although Anichebe wasn't shy in that dept either, again), but the Arsenal team were unbelievable, especially Wilshere, the lad must be made of paper, I thought he was a disgrace. Finally, though Arteta, for the large part was a very good player for us, in every game he's played against us since he's left, he's seemed intent on getting one of us sent off, either waving imaginary cards or insinuating one of our lads has been aggressively using his elbows, well personally my respect for him is fading fast. Anyway, fingers crossed, the fat lady ain't singin just yet, so i'll live in hope. COYB {Ed025's Note - arsene teaches them to moan, what a bunch of wimps!...i remember when it was a mans sport, he recons we were over aggressive, he never said that when viera and petit were kicking lumps out of players, as corporal jones would say "they dont like it up em", take note other teams, the girlygoo gooners are there for the taking if you rough them up a bit..

17 Apr 2013 12:44:41
So after reading Mike's excellent ratings on last night's game, I thought I would give my own take on how our players/manager performed.

Howard : 7 out of 10 did not have much to do but did it well.

Coleman : 9 as I said before was outstanding defensively and just shaded MOTM imo

Jags : 9 another solid performance from one of the most consistent CB's in the league. Only criticism that some of his long balls were wayward.

Distin : 8 has been excellent in recent weeks

Baines : 7 not his best performance ever and has been a little disappointing in recent wks, but can't be amazing all the time

Gibson : 7 solid hardworking performance epitomised by a lung-bursting run trying to get back to stifle an Arsenal break in the 2nd half. Tired badly though and some sloppy passes towards the end

Fellaini : 7 worked hard in midfield to break play up, but didn't influence the game as much as usual from his deeper position

Pienaar : 6 disappointing last night, some sloppy passes, looked a little tired, but did work hard as always

Mirallas : 7 not bad from Kev, but again didn't seem to influence the game in the final third often enough, worked hard defensively though

Barkley : 7 thought he was poor in the first half, looked nervous and out of his depth, but second half was vastly improved and had some good moments

Anichebe : 6 was not able to get involved enough, but was not helped by some dreadful service from the back

Moyes : 7. 5 set out to win and had the team extremely well-organised and working hard. Only criticism would've brought on Jelavic earlier

Mike (aka Mr. Positivity) : 7 not as critical or negative as usual and used the words 'played well' and 'decent' in the same post so all in all a good performance

Degsy : 10 for coining the term Mikemists

Final comment think (as someone has mentioned) that Pienaar needs to stay on the left near to Baines, where he works best. Mirallas and him keep switching and I don't think it is working really. Baines and Pienaar work well together. Mirallas doesn't yet have that undertstanding with Baines and should stay on the right.

Honestly, I loved it tonight. Our boys did us proud and, yes, we could have won. The league does not lie - yes, we could be higher but for the draws but we are still in for more than a shout for a European spot next year. That's real progress. In going down to play Arsenal in London was something we did not look forward to -admit it, not so long past we all thought we would loose. Not now. Spurs, Arsenal - now for Chelsea! 3rd time lucky? Can't wait. London are learning to hate us turning up! EFC are on the rise. COYB!

Some great performances against arsenal Coleman jags Gibson Fellaini were all excellent baines was good but not the quality of delivery were used to
Peanuts vic mirrales were average but a big mention has to go to Barclay who
For me gave his most mature performance in a blue shirt hopefully the penny has dropped for Ross gone was the to many touches and silly
Mistakes to be replaced by a much more composed young man who looked
A genuine threat on the ball will improve with every game also IMO I think moyes is staying if he gets the tv
Money I also would not be suprised if
Fellaini stayed as he is the main man at
The blues and would not be anywhere

Some really good individual performances against arsenal and all up I think a fair result, though either team could have edged it.

standout player for me was coleman, defended well and got forward when he could.

thought jags was excellent defensively but I would've liked to have seen him play fewer of those long balls out of defence.

fellaini for me was great in the deeper role, broke up a lot of their play and really got stuck in without giving away a lot of stupid fouls.

thought barkley was impressive too. started slow but got more into it. what I really like is that he wasn't afraid to get stuck into some challenges and, particularly in the second half, try by himself to make something happen going forward. let's hope he can keep that up.

COYB! Finish the season strong

A good robust performance last night which really rattled wenger and his players. Put in a display like that on 4th May and they won't know what's hit them. Doctor Jimmy
