Listed to Martinez on Merseyside tonight. When asked about the Europa League he began by saying he has been following young boys for while!

Besically he's a Baby Faced Assassin!
Hail the new Peter Reid!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a throw back. Certainly likes a tackle and seems to like to pass the ball forwards. Baby faced assassin could well stick.

Seemed to get younger the longer the game went on?

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think that Besic is an accident waiting to happen at present, especially when he seeks retribution! I don't think its a case of "the red mist descending" - it looks much more cold-blooded to me!
However, aside from these concerns (and maybe I'm being overly critical), he looks like another good signing by RM. That's Barry, McCarthy, and now Besic - all good midfielders that RM has brought to our club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cowpat my view also, gets over excited at times which can sometimes get you in trouble but can complain with his energy and at least he's started playing less off the diagonals he seemed to want to play alot

The performance last night was the disappointment, not necessarily individuals. It's a collective thing and I'm sure the players will feel slightly aware that we're under par. We sing together and cry together so we fans will always be concerned if there's no singing on the horizon. Anyway, I'm not a booer, never have, never could, not my boys in blue, not the badge not the club, never. Personally, I'd be happy enough with the odd brilliant team performance. C'mon blues.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I too would like a brilliant team performance, but for now I want to get the points, move up the table, get the injured players back and on form, maybe do something in the transfer window, and then push on for an exciting (and winning) second half of the season. :-)

Talk of the lack of atmosphere or negative support below in a few posts. I can explain again: The other team has the ball, we get back in numbers and eventually force the opposition into losing the ball to us. The crowd suddenly gets excited.expecting a quick break.but Howard rolls the ball to Distin and he gives it to Baines, who knocks it back to Howard. All this time the crowd are getting ready for our next attack and are ready to roar. But hold on, after eventually getting it to McGeady or Mirallas, it goes back to Baines and then tip tap for the next 20 passes. By now the crowd is impatient and so when we finally do attack, the crowd are frustrated and in "negative" mode. Last night when we did knock a long ball forward or took a chance, the crowd livened up. The rest of the time was as above. The club can only expect a loud home crowd when we are playing more direct football once in a while.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah! and let's get Sam Aladyce to manage us!

Agree0 Disagree0

As so many people point out, there's more than one way to win a football match. It was great to see how we played last season, but this season - for whatever reason (and there are many opinions!) - we have not got the results we might have expected. Bottom line: most teams have success that matches their spending (i.e. on transfer fees and wages for the best players) and we are still behind several other clubs in that respect, despite spending bigger of late. Also, I'm yet to be convinced that we have the players in every position to play the tactical, passing, possession game (with occasional pacy fluid opportunistic forward play) that RM seems to favour.
Maybe our better youngsters are coming through with that style being more familiar to them - and perhaps we'll then see the team be more effective. I certainly hope so!
;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Steverton I don't get your comment because Degsy is right on the money, there's ways off playing keep ball but the most effective and crowd pleasing is having the other to hemmed in not retreating for Howard to launch it after 86 passes. They seem to look back before foward at the moment and it's frustrating and soul destroying in the stands exspecially when were drawing with 10 mins left.

An example is that free kick wall marked out 35 yards from goal 3 passes later it's back with the keeper

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Mike, that was ridiculous but also every time we played a long ball forward it gave possession straight back to them. Kone looks like he might be able to hold it up a bit though. Agreed, we do need to mix it up a bit sometimes but we need the right forwards for that, Lukaku is not that man for me.

What happened to all the posters saying Barkley is rubbish. What does Barkley do for us? etc.
Like I said, the kid has had the media making him into the new Ronaldo/Messi. He has then been out injured for a while and is now just finding his feet again. Sometimes I wonder about our supporters and how they view kids coming into the team. Well played Ross Barkley last night. Besic also needs a mention. Barry's place in the team looks a bit vulnerable in my opinion. especially when McCarthy is back.

{Ed025's Note - one swallow does not a summer make degsy, the boy done well but needs to produce displays like that on a regular basis and against better opposition, besic has been a breath of fresh air for me mate, a bit agricultural at times, but im sure he will learn to control his aggression and be a major asset..

Like I say Ed. he has been built up to be something he is not. Our expectations are similar to LFC and Sterling. A kid should not have this on his shoulders. Add to this his injury and you will see he has been out of sorts but slowly getting back to the levels he was at last season. which was why the media built him up in the first place. He is not Ronaldo nor Messi he is a 21 year old kid called Ross Barkley and I am glad he is in our squad.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with that degsy..

You can not teach a poor footballer the ability and skill ross possesses. The things he needs to bring to his game to make him a quality player touching on class is what a player like david silva has learned. When to break forward and stretch a midfield/defense, when to keep hold of the ball, when to dribble, when to pass or play a through ball to a teammate. He needs a role model to work from similarly as romelu has etoo to learn from. If it is not feasable to bring in that sort of player, some of ross' learning needs to be in front of a tv watching the best attacking players open up defenses. Lastly I want to finish on what a joy it is to watch the lad run with the ball at his feet like he glides across the blades of grass like he's floating, not often you see a player who looks so comfortable with the ball at either of his feet taking players on.

I find it hard to believe there are so many negatives comments after a win. It's so hard when we have so many players not playing well and when I watched the game the supporters booing at 3-1 up. Are you kidding me. To find form you need to win games even if you play bad, eventually the wheel will turn. Remember form is temporary class is permanent. (And we have plenty of that).

think the booing was due to Jags playing the ball back to howard instead of playing a forward pass when there were players available to pass to, but the subsequent ball back to howard was then thumped up field and Lukaku lost the header to their defender (as was all evening). I feel we played well in spells, but were done by the ref again, stupid mistakes were starting to creap in all which contributed to an agitated crowd. At 3-1 up you would not expect qpr to come back into it, but we all know games can change particularly if they had scored another goal to make it 3-2. Suppose the crowd wanted more goals and for us to express our attacking intent, but the game just fizzled out and we became defensive once they got the goal (which may I say should have been a foul to us on Ross before the ref waived play on only to call an offside, followed by qpr's quick counter attack and a silly goal conceeded.)

Something of a strange game tonight with a critical Goodison crowd. Where was that amazing atmosphere 'under the lights' that 'rocks the Old Lady' when in full shout?
For me Besic was MotM for a full blooded, fully committed performance in CM. Ross (excellent first goal) and Naisy (good third and never stopped running) close behind.
Disappointments were McGeady (one decent cross all night), Rom who did not hold the ball up when played forward and the injury to Kevin Mirallas (who struck that free kick with power, despite the massive deflection). Just hope the news is not as serious as his face suggested when stretchered off.
Southampton away next weekend will be a sterner test compared to QPR last night. But with our fantastic away support I fancy us to nick it 2 nil. Kone and Eto'o could well be our elusive Plan B if Rom's off the boil.

Makes me laugh when I hear 'fans' screaming blue murder every time a player moves on or doesn't sign a new contract. Insults flying, money-grabbing person, there's no loyalty left in football blah blah blah.

Yet half the fans on here can't wait to tear into players who have been good servants to our club. get rid, has been, f@cking joke, not worth a crap anymore.

Players like Ozzie, Pienaar, Distin, Jags, Howard, Hibbo. all one time heroes of the stands!! Ffs a cpl of yrs ago, perhaps our Greatest premiership era player, Tim Cahill was getting. Naisy was abused when he arrived, Coleman was worth a donkey's backside, McGeady constant abuse on and on and on.

Christ this site is getting worse every day. Pretty soon the Blue Union will surface again. Let's sack Martinez, sell all our players, hound BK out.

Have a long hard look at yourselves. It's all well and good supporting your team when things are going well, but now we are struggling for form?

Loyalty ye couldn't spell the word!!!

{Ed025's Note - good post that aflm, lots of us are guilty of that at times, it comes from a passion for the club we love to live up to our expectations, last season the bar was raised to a level where we thought we belonged with the big boys, the corner had been turned, buying a player for £28m, plaudits from the media and rousing words from a manager who was bringing us into the light all contributed to the fans very high hopes for the season, there is not a lot wrong to be honest, and i agree that some of the comments are a bit over the top on occasions, but we have been in the shadows for so long that i think its forgivable for a little moan now and again, in fact i see it as healthy, do we want mediocrity?, are we happy to finish mid table?..for me thats a NO mate, this is EVERTON, this is our club, striving to be the best you possibly can be is not a crime, COYB..

Fantastic post aflm78. I would add that players like Ossie/Hibbert who have been one club players get all this stick and when a newcomer such as McGeady comes in, you would think he is Superman. And before anyone has a go, he put in a good cross for the 3rd goal last night and had one of his better games. I am all for constructive criticism, but when supporters talk of "getting rid" of anyone, it winds me up because if every player that had a bad game was got rid of, we would not have a team! Cracking post aflm78

Love it aflm78 not often I agree with with degs

Why so doom and gloom. We kept possession very well, as a team they just need to up the tempo a bit, vary the play and push the team up the field a little, which will all come in time. Admitedly when the ball was there for the cross and eventually got played back to Howard on several occasions frustrated me, but I much prefer this style of play to being a slightly advanced stoke city under Moyes. Our team is being built for the future and Martinez is creating a well rounded top4 challenging side, although this may take a season or two. I love being a blue, I advise you to all do the same and feel grateful we support such a wonderful club! COYB.
