As a spurs supporter for many years I now how you boys feel. You have a top side but not going anywhere I have seen the same thing at spurs over the years when we have had good sides but failed for the top 4 etc. The only answer to you problems is ti get the right man like we have done, we have now gone from a side that usually finish 5th or 6 th for me the best side in the country right now and are close to winning the league. If you get the right man with the players you have got the same will happen to you.

Not Everton related, just wanted to see how people view the Messi/ Hannibal penalty from the week end.
Personally, I thought it was a bit disrespectful to their opponents, especially the keeper, but it is within the rules. For me, a penalty is a battle of wits between the taker and the goalie, nobody else should come into play unless there is a rebound. They would never have tried this against a top team or top class keeper, like Munich and Neuer for example.
I remember Henry and Pires attempting the same move for Arsenal many years ago. They messed it up and many people at the time, including myself, believed it to be a bit of justice.
If the reason was so LS could get his third goal then let him take the spot kick in the first place!

{Ed007's Note - Although it's within the rules it's unfair on the GK imo, that's the last thing in the world he's expecting a player to do. I'd say what Barca done was unsportsmanlike conduct, ungentlemanly conduct, or unsporting behaviour, whichever is the modern name for it.}

15 Feb 2016 15:52:20
if happened to us be furious but if we did it i'd be happy so hard to comment on.

Totally agree ed007, hope they change the rules to prevent it happening again.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You just know that every kid in the country will be trying it but I hope we don't see a spate of copycats at the top level. If I was a GK and it happened to me I'd be looking for a quiet word with the player after the game for trying to make me look like a mug. It's no surprise that it's arrogant knobs like Henry and Messi that have been involved in them.}

15 Feb 2016 17:08:01
To be fair the unsportsmanlike action that took place is the act that caused the penalty. You reap what you sow. Surely stopping a goal by fouling is the biggest crime in this?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - Don't get me started on the crimes Barca's committed over the years.}

15 Feb 2016 17:48:08
haha agree with that again ed. Bretto, I'd be fuming if it happened against us and I'd be embarrassed if any of our players tried it to be honest.

I'd love our team to do that, that's the bloody trouble with this club at the moment.
We're too bloody nice!
Disagree and know your history?
Google How modern corner kicks came into being.
Growl sorry ed but when are we going to kick on?
Robbed at City and behaved like gentlemen of the empire, shove it!

And Trebilcock did it in 64!

After Saturdays display, can Martinez please inform the fans exactly what his problem is with Kevin Mirallas? He persists in playing Kone when it is blatantly obvious the lad is just not good enough. not Premier League standard. He always wants too much time on the ball and his decision making is a joke . Moyes and also Belgium have used Mirallas as a central striker in the past to good effect. West Bromwich played 4 centre halves as their back four . and as usual. even at home. We played Lukaku up front on his own. He got very little decent service but had to deal with being closed down by 2 defenders most of the game. Why didn't Martinez bring on Mirallas to play alongside Lukaku giving us more pace to turn their big defenders. not Kone. leaving Lennon on one wing and Delafeu on the other. Cleverley was unlucky to be subed and much as Leon Osman has been a great player for this Club, it's time to move on as his legs have gone. We should be hammering sides like West Brom and we should have been looking at us being near the top 6 in the papers today. but we aren't! Why was Niasse not on the bench? Does Martinez reckon it's not "his moment" yet? No one knows anything about him at the moment so we could have had the element of surprise. but instead. Martinez gave us Kone!

Did anybody else see Berahino kick out at McCarthy off the ball right in front of the ref? Not one match report media outlet or even MOTD pick up on this.

I would like to see Martinez give the system spurs use a go at the weekend. Have Geri and Kev supporting rom with Oviedo and Lennon as wing backs. Stones in for Barry with Barkley and Clevs as the 3 in midfield. 4-3-3 but when attacking is more a 3-5-3. This will offer the support and counter teams tactics who defend deep in numbers. We have the pace in attack this way to hurt teams. Stones can take on the Dier role which allows the fullbacks to get forward.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think stones is disciplined enough for that role gray, i like your wing back formation but would play barry myself..

15 Feb 2016 11:28:06
Said a few posts ago that Stones would end up in the Dyer role at Everton.

Stones needs to learn to defend properly before moving positions.should watch alderweirld to learn a few pointers of when to play out from the back and when to hoof it into row z

The main reason Spurs have proved to be so successful this season is down to their impressive work ethic and pressing game off the ball. Although Lukaku and Barkley are, in my opinion, invaluable to Everton Football Club in an attacking sense, and I would not like to think where we would be without Rom's goals this season, they simply do not show the same passion and willingness to defend from the front as Tottenham's front men. Even the likes Erik Lamela work tirelessly, not giving defenders a second on the ball. Players like Kane and Alli have proved you can still defend from the front for 90 minutes without sacrificing any of your attacking threat. Now I put this down to the fact that we have an inept manager and coaching team when it comes to fitness and defensive training. Teams find it so easy to work the ball in to their attacking players because our front men simply let them. I believe Martinez concentrates so hard on "perfecting" a fluid attacking game with the ball that he doesn't put the hours in on how to play football without the ball. There is no point in dominating football matches if you are not physically or mentally fit enough to handle the defensive side of the game.

15 Feb 2016 17:23:28
Royaltoffee that has also been why Leicester have been so successful as they close from the front. I do believe our manager does not have the adaptability to move us forward and we should be looking for a new manager come the summer to move us onto the next level.

I see were your coming from ed025 but he has the ability to carry the ball out and help out defensively and any mistakes won't be as costly further upfield, Barry is good enough to do the job but looking ahead to next season Stones is the future and if he goes which am doubting he will then maybe Galloway in this position?

Nice to see city fans moaning about the penalty. Justice for the goal against us when ball went out.
Maybe things do balance out over season.

Pundits keep saying we are moving in the right direction, yet we are in the same league position as last year, no Europe, the points are what counts. I firmly believe in key matches where points have been dropped like Saturday it is the managers tactical errors and wrong substitutions that have cost us time and time again. let's hope the new boy is fit enough to add something to the squad this week we definitely need a lift.
Interesting stat on TS this morning we have conceded the most home goals in all of Europes top 5 leagues, no wonder the fans are quiet!
Please read the clubs motto mr Martinez!

"We've also started with young players and that will take a journey. But I want to push the football club into more than what people would expect.

"The squad we have is a squad to dream of and squad that needs to keep working and having our standards because we can aspire if we fulfil our potential. "

What are you on about soft lad, he should be a politician with the garbage that comes out of his mouth. I've heard more sense from Donald Trump.

Tony Pulis comments after the game were very impressive imo. He had nothing but praise for our city and our club. Said he had great 'respect' for our club. I know he was on the winning side and would have been in a good mood.

But he actually went out of his way to say how he loved coming to Goodison. Even when he was asked about the plastic bottle being thrown at him he just replied 'I've had worse thrown at me'.

Top manager and gave proper respect here unlike other managers, namely Mourinho as of late. Doesn't talk much BS either imo. Straight to the point no messing type of manager.

He's an old school manager but I hope he isn't typing up his c. v. Quite similar to Moyes in the way he sets his defence but doesn't really show much in attack for me. Always nice to hear people talk us up, except Martinez that is, he just sounds daft!

Now the dust has had time to settle, yes we were unlucky on sat, and we have had some rough decisions, plus one or two unhelpful long term injuries, but in general, no more or less bad luck than anybody eles.
The real truth is ROBERTO MARTINEZ, in 3 years at wigan, same story, same excusses. I know at this stage he is not going to be sacked, but I do hope that should the takeover go through his roll, should be the first order to be considered.
We can actully learn something from our friends across the park, they gave that tip tap whally rodgers 2 years and a lot of wasted cash before the penny droped, let's not do the same.
