If we are willing to bid that sort of money for kalanic when he's crap, why would we not bid that sort of money for slimani? I just don't get what's going on at everton atm with these apparent bids. it doesn't make any sense.

Has anyone at Everton confirmed we have bid, no
Did anyone confirm we bid for Witsel, no

Agents pushing prices up, leave the bidding to Ron snd Steve as they know what they are doing.

Does anyone really think we would bid that sort of money on a 'crap' player, he would have been looked at and scouted long before a decision is made.

15 Aug 2016 09:15:13
I've seen him play, many times. He's nothing short of awful. He doesn't even have a good scoring record at club level. International not so bad but if I had modric, rakitic and perisic putting crosses on my head or foot then I'd score a fair few.

I think Mata's performance today should put to bed any talk of him leaving United.

Mane what a player really impressed by him looks quality have to say, shame he is with the Reds but what a player they have there they are looking very good going forward but a hint of Martinez in there defence which will only lead to disaster cause you can't score 4 every game but a great result for them either way.

One good game doth not make a legend

Good player though on his day, let's hope he doesn't have too many :)

Could he be the 'missing piece' they've been looking for?

Doubt it, but we'll see.

I live and work in Southampton. The Saints fans were in disbelief about the money they got for him. First touch is poor, but he is so quick he gets the second one in. Also most have commented that he plays well for a bit then goes missing for 4-5 games.

Eds:
Maybe one of you knows the definitive answer to the following:.
At the end of the transfer window, the club has to register a maximum of 25 (up to 17 non-homegrown) aged-over-21 players that are eligible for Premier League matches. We have 3 aged-over-21 players (Garbutt, McAleny and Rodriguez) without squad numbers that have been playing for our U23 side. My question is: if those 3 aren't registered in the 25-man PL squad, can they still play in the U23 side?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

14 Aug 2016 15:12:59
Ed002: thanks for that info.
For me, it's now a question of whether the club not only wants to keep these 3 players at all (rather than just transferring them out permanently) , but also (if the club does keep them under contract this season) whether their development continues on loan elsewhere or in the U23s. The other 2 aged-over-21 players without squad numbers - McGeady and Niasse - do seem destined for transfers (loan or permanent) out of the club.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Sid - I think you have nailed it there but give a thought to the players and whether or not they would be willing to wait around until next season and take their chances or whether they might think that it is the time to further their career elsewhere.}

14 Aug 2016 14:39:51
Ed002: do you despair that fans/ posters will ever grasp that having a major shareholder that's a billionaire does NOT mean that the club can spend vast sums on transfers and wages?
There are rules (financial fair play or whatever they're called) that place restrictions on how a club's income can be spent (infrastructure versus transfers/ wages versus youth development versus community projects and so on) AND on how much debt a club can carry year upon year AND how much a club can increase its player wage bill season upon season. These rules may evolve over time, but we have to abide by those currently in place - no matter how "wealthy" some fans/ posters think we now are.
To. expect that Mr Moshiri would lavishly spend his own money rather than just using the club's income - let alone be allowed to vastly increase the club's spending beyond what the rules allow - is just wishful and misinformed thinking in my humble opinion. Or am I sadly mistaken and just don't understand what's what?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - You are correct Sid - and it is the reason I try and avoid too much discussion about money.}

14 Aug 2016 14:54:08
Ed002: thanks for keeping it real.

For the love of god. Believe it or not football fans are just that. Fans.

Of course they don't know the ins and outs just like you sid.

I appreciate ED002 and his help but try and understand that not everyone on here even remotely has a clue and that our education has come from rubbish journos and crap papers.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2016 15:49:03
Understand all of that regarding players but what about putting money into a new ground? I presume the main objective is for the club to increase revenue which then allows them to spend more on players. If a new ground is a way to increase revenue then an owner could loan the club money to purchase a new ground without falling foul of any rules or am I wrong?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He could loan the money or the club could borrow the money for a stadium without impacting FFP, However, a new ground is a necessity and any increased revenue will need to go on servicing the debt for years to come. Far more income comes from media and commercial streams.}

Come on blues get it done, he's being made to train with Lyon's reserves now with less than a year remaining on his contract with a few other clubs sniffing round. Get it done before there's a bidding war and more attractive options than us.

Am I the only one who really isn't happy about us chasing Bolasie? He's an exciting player but has no end product, plays in the only position we're well stocked in and will offer nothing more than Deulofeu of Kev, rather just hinder their play time. On top of that he's going to cost at least 2x more than he's ever worth.

Why when we are so desperate for a striker and full back are we splashing huge money on a winger?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

14 Aug 2016 14:14:20
In my opinion Gerry is not up to it as a winger, looks more of a threat in the middle. can't take players on, shows too much of the ball, and tries to pass n cross through players not after beating a player! infuriating and ineffective as a winger. Mirallas is predictable on the wing, cut inside and keep cutting inside till he's the other side of the pitch, rarely gets his shot away n when he does one in 10 on target. Apart from that they are good squad payers only. Need 1st team players.

Kev and Del boy are much better on the right, Bolaise plays best on the left its just about balance for me. It will be interesting if we do sign him as from what i have seen of him his work rate isn't great but that may just be the way CP play.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2016 15:41:31
Agree about Deulofeu, Howie. I think his game is riddled with flaws and he is nowhere near the player a lot think he is, but he's still young and improving and is twice the player we saw on loan, so wouldn't want his play time cut.

I think Mirallas is only predictable because of who he plays with. He has the ability to go either down the wing and cross or cut inside, but because 95% of the time Lukaku isn't where he should be (around the six yard box) , he is forced inside and then, as you say, keeps on dummying.

Still though, I don't think Bolasie will solve either of these players problems. He can dribble but can't pass, cross or shoot.

14 Aug 2016 13:01:09
Love to know what goes through these pointless acts by Clubs, just total waste of evryones time, including their own! All agreed early last week for Bolasie but Palace wouldn't give him permission to come for a Medical. Day after the start of the Season, where he wasnt named in their first team start and they haven't got anyone in to replace him, he is allowed to come for a medical today! Seriously what was the point of all that? hasn't benefited anyone in anyway, just an exercise in.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The agreement was not completely agreed "early last week" - do you think Everton would let Lukaku have a medical elsewhere if the transfer details had not been completely agreed?}

14 Aug 2016 12:17:49
Please don't waste money on Hart. His wages are going to be sky high as well. If Pep rates him second best to Caballero it says it all. If not going to sign a top GK then keep Stekelenburg as number 1 don't waste it on someone who thinks he's better than he is,

Believable3 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2016 12:37:47
I don't want Hart and I'm delighted how Stekelenburg is doing so far but can we fully rely on Stekelenburg? I would be delighted if he continues to improve but I still have my doubts.

This is why, wasn't he second choice at Fulham? At the age of what 32 or something like that. Still has 5 years as a keeper. But my real point is how often is a gem found at that age as a squad player in the championship? Almost never, if not never. How could he go unnoticed all that time? I know he was decent before but I'm talking about the standard of a keeper we are looking for now.

I love finding a hidden gem as much as anyone. Walsh done it at Leicester and Vardy is an example of a player developing to his potential rapidly late in his career. If that happens with Stekelenburg I'll be as happy as anyone. Just not convinced of it yet. Average won't cut it.

He has been a good signing regardless. A good squad player at worst from what I've seen so far but long term solution to our goalkeeper problem I'm not convinced just yet.

If it turns out that way Walsh and Koeman are bigger geniuses than I thought!

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2016 12:41:02
What does it say about Del Boy if he cannot get on the Barcelona bench and has not one but a good half dozen players in front of him. He's done alright for Everton

Before Moshiris money we could only dream of getting Joe Hart, say what you like about Hart he is still a top class keeper and will add competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What money is that. The money for transfers comes from sales and from club income. This has been explained over and over to you.}

14 Aug 2016 12:45:44
Pep likes to have sweeper keepers and Hart is obviously not in that bracket. This will bite City in the arse at some point as that type of keeper isn't really suited to our league, it's ok in Spain or Germany where they get more time but our game is 100mph in comparison.
I know a lot of blues don't fancy Hart as our number one but he is definitely better than what we already have and the fans number one choice, from what I've read on here, Butland will not be leaving Stoke so who else is out there?
MS had a good game yesterday for us but I'm not convinced he is the answer. I'm basing that on his performances for other teams in the prem over the last few years. His name has never really been mentioned as a keeper to replace Howard before he joined and he was brought in as back up in the first place. Joel is not good enough imo.
Maybe a change of club would do Hart the world of good? He has experience at the highest level, international and european, and I don't think he is as bad as some fans make out. I agree he makes a few mistakes but every keeper is prone to that. As I said a few days back, he looks decent when Kompany is ahead of him but not so much with the likes of Demichels or Malanga. With the likes of Williams and Jags in front of him he might be a gamble worth taking, especially since there is a dearth of talented keepers actually available.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2016 12:48:41
Spikes, does that mean sell Lukaku because he thinks he is better than he is. I got slated when I said Barry will be a great signing, giving experience and helping the youngsters.

If you want to challenge for the top, you need strength in debt, Hart will add that.

I do agree steak looks good in goal, only takes an injury and suddenly one of the most important areas is weakened.

Howard and Robles only needed a dip in form or injury and it's hard to cover, it's easier to cover outfield ares by slotting players in a different position, but you have to have backup in goal or you're stuffed.

I give you Neville Southall as a yardstick how important a goalkeeper is.

So for me I would take Joe Hart all day long.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2016 13:16:17
Money also comes from wages Ed regardless of transfers, before Moshi came, we would not be in the position to offer wages around the wages we are looking to pay to keep Lukaku or top players. Signing.

Money talks with players, and there was no way Bill would have paid the wage we are now offering Lukaku., not because he did not want to, but because he could not.

Regardless of Money, we now have the money to say no unless we get top dollar and we now sell when we want to and not have to.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No money comes from wages - the club spends money on wages. You really don't seem to understand how this works at all - and what Mosiri money are you talking about?}

14 Aug 2016 13:44:57
Ok will leave Moshi out of this, the guy is not at Everton From income coming in and players sold we would then offer Lukaku the amount of wages we are offering now to keep hold of him, not a chance Bill would have sold Lukaku.

The only reason we did not sell Stones last season is as we all know Martinez was one stubbern manager, it is one of the few good things for Everton he did.

We can now offer top wages for top players, new ground to come, but I guess all this would have been done by our board before the Moshi era, hang on tattoo and fantasy island spring to mind.

Spurs fan here in peace, I was very happy with a point yesterday as not many teams will win at goodison park this season. Seeing Koeman is looking is looking to take in 1 or 2 wingers does he see Del boy and Mirallas helping out Rom or whoever the striker is going to be? That's what I see happening. Rom up front with Del boy and Mirallas alternating up front with him. Call them no 10 or striker, whatever you want.

Seems to me that Koeman sees them more in that role as he's looking to bring in wingers. If Rom leaves I wouldn't be surprised if only one striker is signed along with Del boy and Mirallas up front with Barkley behind whatever 2 is picked.

There is so much I want to writr, but it would take far too long. A few points though are:
The manager has obviously decided that we will press much higher and Gueye fits well into the strategy. The keeper looks excellent and I would say Hart would be a bad signing re cost and do we actually need him. We still have Williams to come in. Lukaku is still with us and only a coupleof weeks to the end of the transfer window. But now a couple of warning bells that still resonate in my mind. We did not "batter" Spurs. we held them at home. We had one off performances like that under Martinez. and one game is just that. one game. let's see if these lovely improvements continue. I certainly hope so. I still worry about goals. Aside from Barkley's goal and a chance for DelBoy, there appeared to beno other goal chances. I still worry that we are dreadfully short of attacking midfielders with a goal within them. although at least Koeman has beenpicking Mirallas who obviously does have a goal withing him. just not of late. If we sign a couplemore players, I would say I might just have to concede on my previous posts and eat all that lovely humble pie!

Believable5 Unbelievable8

14 Aug 2016 09:44:01
Good post Degsy, we were never going to batter them though. It was a good performance against a team who was full strength and came close to winning the league last year. We were trying a new system without Williams, Coleman, lukaku so if yesterday is anything to by with a few new signings i am really positive for the rest of the season.

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Aug 2016 09:56:54
Firstly how can you say it was a "one off"? It was the first game of the new season under the new manager.
Secondly at no time will we ever be battering the top 5 teams, under RM Spurs would of battered us yesterday.
We played with no striker yesterday and had Williams on the bench yet we still managed a draw. I think with him playing Lumaba would never of got his header in and scored.
Koeman has stated they are only 70% to what fitness levels he wants and we will have 3 or 4 signings before the window closes.
Yesterday showed massive improvements in defense and those improvements will only continue.
We certainly deserved the draw if not the win.

It was a huge mistake appointing Martinez and especially on the reasons given by Bill but the past is the past. I agree with Mossley, this fella is the real deal, no waffle or rambling comments on games that only Martinez appeared to have watched and 30 odd thousand didn't. With Moshri and his team in place (and he is still formulating) we will progress, slowly at first but forward never the less.

Degsy you kind of contradict yourself in that post mate. You tell us it's only one game yet you don't believe we need a new keeper because MS had a good game. But, by your reckoning, it was only one game.
We looked a lot better in the first half than we have for a long time, as you say we can see what RK has worked on with the players, pressing etc. The performance was more important than the result but it was always going to be a bit of a test as Spurs had a great season last time out and have a talented and organised side. For me, yesterday showed that we will move in the right direction under RK.
There were a few more chances than you remember mate, GD had at least 3 opportunities. It's also quite telling that without a recognised striker on the pitch to start, RK does not trust Kone as his back up forward. We should expect at least one to be bought before deadline day, possibly 2 if Rom is really on his way. Bolasie is also on his way for a medical right now so things are still being done behind the scenes. Let's see where we are after a few games rather than judge on the first, especially since our manager has said they are not as fit as he'd like.

Hart on loan or purchase?

I did not get a chance to see Bolasie when he subbed in late for Crystal Palace.

I had the Sunderland game on in the background, and heard Kone's name a few times against MC>

Did anyone see how he did playing up against a strong team?

I will put my trust in RK.

14 Aug 2016 07:03:21
Think Kone is going to stay and get a bumper pay rise. The offer to Sunderland is still on the table and the player is aware of it, if he wanted to leave he could have. Koeman stated we should have 2 maybe 3 players confirmed this week, I believe them to be Bolasie, Ghezzal and Abdennour. That's just my guess mind could be wrong. Still no sign of a striker or a serious link to one either I reckon that we will only sign one or two strikers if Rom goes. I'm baseing this on the fact we are looking to sign 2 wingers so that means Gerry and Kev will likely be Roms support. Again only my opinion but all the signs and links to players make it look that way.

They'd do for me bluegray but I still think we need an attacling cenre mid as well. I still believe we'll buy Juan Mata very late in the transfer window, we'll at very least try to sign him. I think Kone, Bolasie and Mata may be the three new faces. Gueye/ Gana was fantastic in the first half yesterday and was quite obviously a Steve Walsh special! He may well have a couple of other gems lined up. Exciting times ahead! COYB.
