Hi Eds, what up with Gomes the sun say he wants to delay his move to everton. But this is the sun. Easy win tomorrow.

{Ed002's Note - Gomes would not commit to a move unless he knew what his options are.}

14 Dec 2018 14:12:52
Thank Ed, so that means he could be at another club in the new year?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Everton has him on loan to the summer.}

He would be a good addition to the squad if we could get him. I'm sure the necessary conversations are taking place as it seems like Brands and Silva are doing a good job so far recruitment wise.

Let's hope we get him then.

One of the tabloids said Spurs are sniffing round his agent? Any truth do you know Ed? Probably just tabloid but sometimes there is truth.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is true that Spurs are looking for a similar player in the summer and they know it will be a struggle to sign the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Yuri Tielemans and Frenkie De Jong (CM) so they are enquiring after the likes of Hector Herrera and, indeed, Andre Gomes now.}

Just been reading the excellent posts below re our Great Club in years gone by, hearing on the radio this morning that Rangers are playing Rapid Vienna tonight brought back memories to me of us beating Rapid Vienna in the European Cup Winners Final in which we won 3-1 in 1985 Andy Gray, Tevor Steven and Kevin Sheedy scored our three goals what a night, c'mon Marco bring those nights back ahhhhhhhh memories.

Football was much better back then. Fair enough the quality may have not been as good and no mega stars but it was proper clubs, smaller squads, more characters and the domestic game was not a 2or3 horse race year in year out. It’s boring now. It shouldn’t be that you have to spend 400 million every year - it should love down to coaching and well ran clubs.

In baseball 10 years ago the fans in league got sick of the yankees winning every year so league introduced salary cap which meant better players were all not at one club. In the next 6 years - 6 different teams won the Word Series.
Not saying this is just for EFC but all clubs should have a chance. It’s boring, predictable and elitism at its worst.

The fans have the power - if fans outside the top 6 stopped buying sky and refused to go into stadium if have to pay more than £15 it would be sorted within 3-4 seasons.

My son is 5 - is it fair that his team EFC will never have a chance of winning the league and likely not able to play in champions league for next 20-30 years simply because of sheikhs, unbalanced financial fair play rules, Sky funding and protection of elite clubs in Europe.

Best era for football 50s to late 80s - I hope it come soon back - also Hope average players don’t get million pound contract so which are paid for by fans who are struggling to pay for a ticket.

To be fair GB, they would be a bit old now. Might give Liverpool a game or Man Utd though.

Loved watching football in the 80's, loved playing football in the 60's, jeez some right tackling as well in those days, none of this rolling around on the ground like you have been shot. If you stayed on the ground then it was because it was impossible to get up.

Murdoch is to blame. TV money set the Premier Leagues top 4 as we knew them. Then of course Russian and Arab money has come in since to make it a top 6 now.

Just been reading a good article about one of our prolific forwards in days gone by - Brett Angel. He scored 1 in 20 - worst player I've seen in my time but that's by the by.
Just read that on his last appearance for us he was awful. He had been booked and made another fowl - apparently EFC fans joined in with the QPR fans in shouting off! Off! Off! (Bars in mind we had to win to stay up- which we did via an Andy Hinchcliffe free kick)
Any case he didn't get sent off but was subbed off. Once off he met Big Dunc in players lounge (he was likely suspended) - Big Dunc tried to cheer him up with booze!

By the time everyone else came in he was drunk as a monkey. He was vomiting in plant pots and also holding sick in his mouth when chairman came in room.

He was sold to Sunderland the next day where he was equally prolific.

We finished 17th that year - Southall, Watson, Ball, Ferguson, Rideout etc. Surely there has never been a worse forward in recent times - Bakayoko springs to mind possibly.

Without doubt the best and most prolific strikers I ever saw were Latchford Sharp and Gray. I'd give my left nut for one of those today ;-p.

Let’s not forget big Joe Royal, and whilst being nostalgic and although not a striker as such what would you give for someone with the skills of Duncan McKenzie today
That dribble against Stoke just brilliant
Big C.
