Well done to the lads tonight but what was done tonight that's made us play that way why can't we do it every week? Was it the formation? Had the players been told off? God I hope RK remembers to do it again . well done blues.

Well done Gents, best team on the night won.

We dealt with your forwards and midfield, but not your defence.

Baines cross, Coleman finish.
Baines corner (I think) , Williams finish.
Baines goal line clearance.

Goodison rocks under floodlights.

Respect.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - cheers dags, i think the corner was ross mate..

Ed,
Add Ross to my hit list πŸ˜„.

14 Dec 2016 08:27:10
Fair play Dags for coming on and taking it. Pity your manager can't do the same. I thought he had got better in recent seasons but he was on about the referee again last night! He sounds like a 5 year old. "I am taking my ball home! " . when the other kid scores a goal! lol I suspect you will hammer us next game after Koeman wound him up with his comments!

14 Dec 2016 08:37:27
Wenger does make excuses mate, he should learn to take the on the chin.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2016 09:17:47
Or if he had a genuine complaint about a really poor decision. That I would understand. But every game there are those which are borderline decisions and if my memory serves me right. the one he was complaining about was the previous corner which was saved by your keeper. then we took the next one and scored. So how many decisions back does he want to go. I am sure there was a throw in in the first half that should have gone our way! lol. Seriously, I did wonder whether it was a goal kick or a corner, but your defence then had 2 opportunities to clear it but didn't so to come on and blame the ref. He also said he got decisions wrong in other games so expect another fine for him. I wonder if he can afford it? Anyway I saw a post on FB saying the best last minute in a Premier Game. If I was Wenger, I would be saying it was a great game and we nearly got something out of it at the end. I hate to admit this, but Klopp at our biggest rivals would be saying something similar. The guy just oozes charm and respect. But that's enough of my admissions!

14 Dec 2016 23:13:50
Thanks dags. Would also add in defence of wenger he stayed on the touchline and shuck hands with all our players, first time ive ever seen him do that. Has he got the xmas spirit or is it a farewell to goodison.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2016 22:32:09
Gotta mention Stecckers in goal for that last minute of chaos. He came and got a haand on a couple of crosses and it would have been easy for him to stay on his line. Who knows what the outcome would have been then? He has had some stick recently so I am pleased for him.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2016 23:21:23

I don't think James McCarthy gets the credit he deserves for us. I know he offers very little going forward, but tonight, and often against the big teams in our league, I thought he was quality, pressing all over the park and really getting the fans going. Hope he has persuaded Koeman that he is worth keeping at Goodison, far too good for Brenda's Celtic.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he gave his all there RT and got a hug off ronnie as he came off, its up to james i think and if he wants to stay he must keep up that level every time he plays mate..

13 Dec 2016 23:03:29
Totally agree Royal. An easy target for fans. As is Barkley and Cleverly. Strange thing is imho it was Eamon Dunphy who started it all last season while he was playing for Ireland.

Dunphy certainly knows how to create story's and get people talking. The media seemed to kick on with it after that. We have him to thank imo.

Just got back from the match, ratings:

Stekelenburg-6-Obvious why

Coleman-7-Scored an was a decent threat last 20 minutes. Thought his containment of Sanchez was poor as expected.

Jagielka-7-Solid but no idea what his new obsession is with giving away fouls.

Williams-8-Goal alone is enough, love it.

Baines-8-Great ball in for Coleman, solid game and kept Walcott quiet.

McCarthy-6.5-He's too negative and never makes himself available, always hiding behind other players so no one gives him the ball.

Gana-8-Did everything well, good passes, his tackling and reading of the game was so good.

Valencia-8-Fought his heart out, ran all game and was pretty decent on the ball.

Barkley-8.5-Another who gave his all, always wanted the ball and wasn't afraid of anything.

Lennon-7.5-Never seen him give anything but 100%, presses all the time and his ability to keep the ball was excellent.

Lukaku-7-Some fight in him today.

These ratings may be too high, don't get it confused, this wasn't a good performance by the team but plenty of good performances from individual players. Fought for every ball today.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - i disagree swan, i thought it was entertaining with all the passion and commitment we have been craving for, how you never gave gana a 10 i dont know, and rom was better than a 7 in my book as well mate..

I give Swan a 10 for posting again! But yeah we all have a different view on things but it is much easier to disagree after a performance like that!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2016 22:35:48
I disagree, I think that with the exception of Stekelenburg, who for me should have got a 5, I would have rated most of the players a little higher. Lukaku made a lot of effort, and McCarthy did a good job and actually passed forwards for a change. Coleman was fantastic going forward so I think we can forgive his handling of Sanchez.

I loved the atmosphere tonight at the game. The players finally realised that if they put a bit of effort in then the fans get off their backs and become the 12th man again. The players all put a shift in and you could see the relief on their faces when the final whistle went.

Someone on here said that Koeman needed his game to endear him to the fans, ala the Chelsea home and Arsenal away in Bobby's first season. This may be it. I'm not looking forward to the derby on Monday, but I'm hoping that this may just kickstart our season again. COYB.

Together.

The most important word for this Everton we love.

Together.

The players on that pitch fighting for each other.

Together.

Chasing down the opposition defending as a unit and attacking with support.

Together.

The manager stood on that sideline. Heading every ball, urging every tackle and encouragine throughout.

Together.

A baying, vile, vicious, agressive and screaming goodison crowd. Stood shoulder to shoulder with those players on the pitch and not against them.

Together we are not just another football club.

Together

We

Are

Everton!

I feel like I have just given birth to quadruplets and they are all millionaires. Emotional to say the least! All those who were saying the players did not care or try take a rethink. But those who said we needed 2 up front and to try Valencia up with Lukaku had a point I feel. We seem scared of teams and too negative. When we start pushing on, we can battle ourselves into a game. Koeman is right on that point. but the players seem to start so slowly and back off until we are a goal down.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2016 22:05:17
I really think the two up front is key Degsy. Even though neither scored today they open up the attacking options for the other players, drawing defenders with them. When Koeman took Valencia off he replaced him with Calvert-Lewin, a 19 year center forward, how refreshing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that was another real plus for us mike, and i thought rom was very industrious tonight as well..

13 Dec 2016 22:08:27
Been saying it for weeks, stick Valencia in attack with Lukaku, attack teams and don't sit back, Lukaku has looked lazy on his own, with another striker, it gives our wingers more options than playing a pass to Lukaku who is surrounded by a couple of defenders.

13 Dec 2016 21:56:42
It is buzzin in here. About time and more like it. We need a few more young uns in and promoted now, because to play RK's system you need to be able to press for 90 minutes and you only get that from being supremely fit and having the young body to cope with it. One other thing, Stubsy in the commentators box, get him in Ron get him in, defensive coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it was a great night BCT, i was only saying to degsy today that we can play good football and be aggressive mate..thats the happy medium i was on about, im glad ronnie took my advice on board.. :)

13 Dec 2016 22:20:05
Tut tut Ed. you didn't make that clear to me. But I accept it now. And Guye is the new Peter Reid! In and about everywhere. Sat with a bottle of Pinot Grigiot and it tastes like nectar! You can see in the players that it is a fear and confidence thing. it has nothing to do with lack of effort. they are just so scared of giving a goal away that they will not commit to pressing forwards. Hopefully Koeman will now instil in their minds this fact and we will press other teams in the same way.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want that every game degsy, you seen how the crowd responded to that passion and verve they were immense and the players must know that when they give 100% like tonight the fans will respond, great night and hopefully our season starts here mate..

What plonker suggested take Williams off he may of just won us the game. An I may be watching a different game but I think barkley has done well tonight. has anyone noticed a difference in koeman today too he has been up and down the line being very vocal I think it's the sign of a man who was just starting to feel the pressure.

{Ed025's Note - i thought ross and valencia did well shakey..but what about gana...absolutely superb..

13 Dec 2016 21:51:51
Gana was class ed I was impressed with valenciea mate I would of been happier if koeman took off mccarthy tho an put valenciea in his position. I think the team as a whole played there socks off mate today against a really impressive arsenal team.

Leighton Baines
Team is:

13 Dec 2016 18:06:32

McCarthy
Davies. Gana. Barkley
Lukaku. Valencia

With the instructions to work their socks off!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2016 18:39:18
Davies not in the squad, played last night for the U21's. Doubt if Holgate will be in the starting 11 also would say the same forJoel and Valencia. Probably a permutation of the regular Koeman pick players we have seen playing over the last few games.

{Ed025's Note - god help us then mike.. :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2016 02:44:36
I think Everton need to get back to basics, we are making the game so complicated with formations, get back to 4-4-2, each player with a task, defend, play the ball forward, attack.

A good three minutes our sub spends listening to our managers notes, do this, do that, move here, run there.

These players are professionals, work on a system in training and don't change it after 10 minutes, half the players have not got a clue when we keep changing from this to that every 5 minutes.

It's not rocket science, stop over complicating and keep it simple.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2016 07:17:38
They call it old School Baz, I call it realism. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I do agree with you in short but to take a more pragmatic view, don't we have to adapt to the other Teams tactics. Our last Manager was very bad at this, at least Koeman tries to respond. Hopefully now that he has settled in, his long term view has now become far more solidified with changes possible in January.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Dec 2016 21:46:55
Kendalll always said let the other team worry about us, let them make the changes to try and out think us, changing your style against other teams is strengthening their chances and weakening yours, roll your sleeves up, put the other team on the Blackfoot, sitting back you will eventually get caught out, best means of defence is attack.

2 strikers tonight and we get a result, marking 2 strikers creates space for our flanks.

Job done, well done Everton, same again next game please Ronnie, 2 strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - amen to that baz..

12 Dec 2016 23:23:09
I've refrained from posting too much lately because I'm hurting just like the rest of you. Anger can sometimes cloud your judgement and you focus on the wrong areas.

With anger there is frustration which can then lead to a loss of confidence in what the manager is trying to do.

It sounds a bit Yoda but it's true. It's what has happened to the team at present.

A win can build confidence that relieves frustration. More clarity and less frustration creates belief and you become happier in your role and your judgement becomes better.

It's a process but it can only work if those players on the pitch, the manager and fans work together. None are doing it right now but if any club can it's this beast we support.
