racking me brains for a good cheap rw , Dos Santos? whats he worth? could moyes get more out of him than arry did?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Seems a bit too lightweight to me, and doesn't appear to be the sort of player that would put a shift in, or at least track back.

Personally I quite like him but I can't see it happening

I dont think he is light weight I believe he could do similar job as piennar on the opposite flank.

Am i missing something, i thought with the new tv deals every club got 14 mil extra. In the last year we have off loaded arteta, yakubu, beckford, baxter, rodwell, cahill, yobo, bily.
Thats alot of cash and our wages have been slashed, yet if you believe reports we still owe alot to banks. Just cant figure
it. Anyway would love dempsey and johnson but lets just be real. {Ed025's Note - i think the tv deal starts next year..

If I were Moyes i'd go out and get Xabi Prieto from Real Sociedad, we've been linked with him in the past and he'd be a great new number 10 for us, can play Rm and Cm, skilful, very much like Arteta. Although I have no idea how much he would cost. And with what ever is left go and get Donovan back, he's contract is up in June and he'l be cheap. And although people may not agree with me I wouldn't mind Owen, but only on a pay as you play deal, he'd be good cover for Jelavic (when he's fit).

please correct if i am mistaken, but weren't city looking around 10 million for A. johnson? That would be a bargain of someone of his age, quality and experience (regarding we did just recieve 15m for rodwell.) With Moyes at the helm i'm sure he could bring that figure down as well. just a thought rather then going for a loan and a short term fix. With sinclair agreeing personal terms apparently, the door could be forced open by mancini.

To all the people moaning about BK selling Rodders, Did Rodwell not say yesterday that BK wanted to keep him but it was to good an opportunity for him ( Rodwell ) to turn down. I think it's not a bad bit of business personally considering his injury record! BUT only if BK gives Moysie MOST of the Money to re invest ( Donavan please :). Lee

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Excellent business if you ask me. an injury prone player who would have found it difficult to get in midfield. it's almost as if we got a free £12m...

CP {Ed025's Note - i will be happy if it means we dont have to lose any of our star players, i think if we had to lose one, then rodders was a prime candidate, better him than felli, or baines...i liked rodders, but i suppose sometimes neeeds must..

Agree0 Disagree0

Players come and go at EFC only if David Moyes says so. Even if a player wants to go elsewhere it'll only be at a fee that David Moyes finds acceptable. I think he'd walk away if it wasn't so.

right this will be a fairly big post my apoligies....

People are moaning about kenwright and the board: yes theyre not the richest but look where we are in the league without spending mega bucks? i know its frustrating having to sell, but how do you know weve sold rodwell to appease the banks? moyes could of accepted the offer and seen a chance to purchase some of his targets, lets not forget rodwell was not a starting 11 player and the money being said that we got for him is alot and too bigof chance to waste on buying other better players, when he was already so far down the pecking order!

transfers: everyone seems to want us to buy ince and phillips personally i think it would not be the smartest thing for us too do, we need top already experienced players, imo we should go for johnson on loan, and isco for 8 mill because of malags financial troubles, also we shoud try and sign the greek trialist, and the other greek winger we have been looking at, i think we need a playerr like isco or marquee signing to get us fans going again, just like it did with the felli and billy signings we all got excited! until we saw billy play obvcourse;)

Junior: ive watched him alot recently and saw some of his city academy games he reminds me of a sillful classier lee carsley, i think he will be a big player for years to come im more excited about him than ross barkley even though he looks an exceptional talent.

manny fernandez: would love to see him back on a free to bolster the squad abit more we doo need more depth!

post this please ed..

I'm sat in work bored out of my head, just started thinking about the amount of home grown players we've sold in the last 15yrs either for big money or they've just gone on to have decent careers, ball, dunne, jeffers, mcann, vaughan, rooney,a gerrard, david fox, now rodwell only hibbert and osman have stayed, can anyone think of anymore, but I don't hold out much hope of keeping barkley. {Ed025's Note - there is only rooney and ball there, who could be classed as great..

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Dunne has had a better career than Ball ed... Hands down. Ball was not even close to Baines.. {Ed025's Note - sorry mate..i was thinking alan ball..

Agree0 Disagree0

David unsworth was sold and brought back, and ed i think dunne has had a pretty good career.
ste c {Ed025's Note - hardly a great player though ste..

Agree0 Disagree0

You cant argue this point as most of them are woeful those ones were released. Ball was greedy for money not success, Jeffers was the same only Rooney left to win things and to be honest he kept the club alive with his transfer fee

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe not a great player ed but the lad only asked about players going on to have a good careers, and i think hes had a good career.
ste c {Ed025's Note - mediocre for me ste..

I would love to hear a decent rumour that wasn't first on SSN or some other mainstream media. Rodwell transfer shows that things are usually well controlled until close to conclusion. So far we have been linked to just about any prospective transfer. Most dreaming or wishful thinking by those on these pages. Perhaps not unexpected as our passion for success is rarely fullfilled via transfers. Not unexpected as we have no real buying power apart from when we sell first.

I hope Moyes gets to spend the Rodwell money. I liked Jack but he was not a first choice so probably good business. Who will we buy, I have no idea, who would I like. Anybody who can do a job for us. Johnson would be good on loan, Defour would be a good in the middle, and I would like an impact striker who can change the game plan when needed and get an elusive goal when it looks like stalemate. {Ed025's Note - i think we would all like that mate..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Katidis. Said it for 3/4 weeks now. There's your exclusive.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2012 16:11:02
that's a ridiculous thing for him to say - given that he wasn't good enough to get in our first team - he was behind Fellaini and Gibson in midfield - and Pienaar on the left is better than him - in fact most of Everton's team is now better than Rodwell - all he ever seemed to do is pass the ball sideways with shortish distance passes of maybe 5-10 yards

apart from the United goal I don't remember him doing anything of note for a few years now - centre mid has got to be doing a bit more than passing the ball off immediately to others all of the time {Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that mate..

If the rodwell deal has been negotiated for a couple of weeks surely we have some irons in the fire so that our deals can be finalised before getting held to ransom by other clubs just because we got some money of rodwell deal. So I expect new signings to be announced very soon.

Where does it say about a announcement by the club to be made is it today or tomorrow and if so surely they would give a time etc if it was major news for a press conference.
IMWT

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Pienaar Already ours

and thats a great window 4 out, and 5 in that will make the club move forward

tell me what you think

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I'd take Pienarr and Naismith. Gd job too. Add a bit of Adam Johnson and a striker we can use back up for Jelavic and I reckon we'd be a massive force this Season ( I reckon we're gonna be anyway ). Not sure about the Blackpool pair myself. I'd prefer players with a bit more establishment at the top level and internationally. Preferably Not Michael Owen lol .. though he does know where the net is however out of date he is. 7 days to go!

Dog Puke Peter

Agree0 Disagree0

All those 4 would cost more than 4 million each. Might get ince for around four mill. As for the other two, there clubs have already stated they want upwards of that. Hudds and Blackpool financially sound so they won't sell cheap. Would take Owen though. Think we will have to use most of the Rodwell money just to get one of the other three.

Personally I wouldn't care less if the dosh from Rodwell went to pay off our pathetic debt we got ourselves into to stabilise the club and make us attractive to investment in the near future and Moyes just brings in (for example) Micheal Owen(free), Manny Fernandes(free) and Adam Johnson on loan.

Ed, just a thought with everyone panicking about selling Rodders, the price, who we should buy and having a small squad!! We should remember that Other than the Peanuts deal Moyes is alway very secretive and cagey when it comes to transfers. There was not a single one of us heard or saw anything about the Rodders deal until it was announced, and apparently according to Rodders himself the negotiations had been ongoing for a couple weeks! Posted on here yesterday regarding my excitement at what the rodwell money (plus another potential sale...anichebe? coleman?) could do for us in terms of adding world class to our squad.. A few people were quick to deny that 15/20 million can buy more than one top player. I understand my examples of cahill and arteta were dated but take a look at newcastle...

Cabaye - 4.5 million.... Tiote - 3.5 million

They seem so savvy in the transfer market nowadays.. Graham Carr is doing a great job for them in that department. Look at the current valuation of these two players.

I refuse to believe that we cant add 2/3 top players with our current finances!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

If anyone can do that, its Moyes, he wouldn't of sold Rodwell unless he had a plan, and good replacements to come in, just be patient... IMWT

If the owen rumour comes true I know it won't please everybody, but look at the positives we need bodies, he's free and we have some young strikers with a bit of talent ie mceleny, hallum hope, if they could learn from watching him in training that bodes well for us in the future, also I don't expect him to be much more than an impact player coming of the bench, and if we get a half chance with a minute to go against the mancs I could think of a lot worse to be on the end of it.
Ste c

Believable4 Unbelievable0

We only play with one up front anyway so any striker brought in will be a bench warmer I would not be against Owen coming in on pay as you play and goal bonus he still has an impressive goal per game ratio at utd so he still has some something to offer put it this way if the game was 0-0 with 20 mins to go I would rather have him to bring on and pinch a winner rather than anichibe

Mancini's comments are just goading Moyes into playing an open attacking game next season at ManCity - obviously Mancini did not like it when we parked the bus there last season and we nearly got a result from it - we may have a better team out next season though - and it might be him parking the bus!
Clozem

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I think his comments have been taken out of context, why would he goad efc after just doing business with them and with the possibility of Johnson coming our way on loan, perhaps he meant playing to win trophies, there is a different type of pressure to win the league, champs league etc at city, English isn't his first language could just be a lost in translation type of thing

Maybe so, but its not the first time he's said snidey things about Everton. He hates to lose, and hasn't got the class to acknowledge good opponents.

He has appointed a manager from lower leagues and kept faith, that manager is now coveted by many top clubs, kept backing the youth policy bringing through top talent for first team and also for profit making. Most importantly though he has kept the history and dignity of the club in tact and not been pushed around by the money men, getting big fees for players sold. Don't compare him to sheikh mansoor and abramovich. It's not reality and a waste of time. Think back to the dark days of early-mid 90s and be happy. Owen in for back up and a couple of moyes master strokes with the ten mill from Rodwell with 5 mill bunged to the banks to keep them quiet and I'm bang up for this season! Top 6 definitely!

dunno why some people think we need more cm? we have felli, gibbo, leon, junior and barkley. heitinga and neville can. and those saying neville aint good enough?!?!?! let me remind people he was in the midfield in the game of last season at old trafford and dragged the team back after being 3-1 and 4-2 down. he also played cm in the last few games of the season when we started playing well. i keep saying it but it's about time our fans started supporting our team and our players instead of giving the club and players stick. everyone is entitled to their point of view but seem people don't seem to accept other's views and are too stubborn to listen to other people's views and accept them and maybe change their own opinion. a few months ago i was one of the kenwright hate club but after listening to people on here and thinking about it deeply, i agree that bk has done a great job in consolidating the club and is subject to some unfair criticism. i will get argued with on this post by some people unwilling to accept MY opinion

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I know what your trying to say mate but say Gibson gets injured and Osman gets injured and Fellaini is banned for 3 games, what you think we would dominate games with two inexperienced players in the middle of the park?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing like being negative. Neville could easily do a job for a few games to partner a younger player like barley or junior. and if it came to it so could jonny . even pienaar for a game with gueye on the left. but point taken i would rather see the money spent on a rm and back up striker myself

If moyes does not see part of the money then he will be asking questions again of our board. We need at least two new players. Glad he may have three weeks to get players in and not last minute. Rodwell is no great loss is he?

Hey Ed's and everyone else I haven't posted for a while I've been flat out, i dont know if you remember me saying that i had an opportunity to work for Everton. Well I've actually signed an initial 6 month work contract with The mighty blues, a dream come true. I will be working on a promotional project along with Nike to build the clubs profile and will be based in the U.S and be aimed mainly at building our profile over there, hopefully with some help for Tim Cahill, Tim Howard and Landon. I spent 8 days at the club and was amazed how tight lipped they were over the future, transfers etc but I did hear about Rodders going, Tom Inces name was regularly mentioned and unfortunately the Owen thing seems to be happening. I know this info isn't unheard of and not really exciting but like I said its all hush hush, and first thing I had thrown infront of me was a declaration of confidentiality but I will keep everyone up to date with whatever I legally can.

Apparently we're signing Owen. How awful will that be if that's the big announcement today.....However I'd take him another day because our squads a bit thin at the moment..let's hope we can get 3 new faces in by September the 1st to give us a bit more depth

Don't know what this announcement is going to be today, if anything. But surely we are going to sign atleast 2-3 players before the end of the window, whether they are free or of low value because can not see us starting the season with 17 in our first squad.

Makes me think we'll get Owen possibly an a few loans for back up, either way hope we get some good news today

all respect i had for Roberto Mancini has gone out the window after his comments about rodwell joining his multi million pound squad “It’s a good player for our future. It’s the first time he is at a club that plays to win, and it will be different for him", very disappointing, mal,efc1974

Hi all, Everton was never a huge squad last season but there has been a huge clear out this summer. Gone : Hahnemann,Yobo, Rodwell, Drenthe, Cahill, Stracqualursi, McFadden, and Baxter 8 players gone, who could have foreseen this. Granted Yobo was away on loan, Hahnemann never really played nor did Baxter or McFadden except the last 3 or 4. We brought in 1 player as Pienaar was here last season. Think we need 4 more players maybe buy 2 and get a loan and a free. Ideally think we need a Keeper maybe on loan don't know who is available in that area.
A decent RB Someone like K.Naughton about 6m we need a RW like L.Donavan about 4m and a free back up striker which sounds like it could all ready be M.Owen. Squad would be still small but would rather have quality than quantity. Provided we dont have an injury crisis, think we will do well top 6.Maybe even a cup as well. So its time to get behind the lads. COYB.

can anyone clarify some things for me?

rodwells transfer fee?
how much do we get from it after the bank take their cut out of it?
mancini said the signing was pretty much done for weeks, so was money used to finance pienaar?
has michael owen signed?
are there any targets close or in talks? ( please nobody say holtby, defour, moutinho, etc etc all champions league players on big wages playing week in week out for these champions league teams, if holtbys dad wasnt a blue nobody would even dream of him)
is another striker being looked at?
is anichebe going?

1)12 million (could rise to 17 mil with add ons)
2)No one knows except for Kenwright and Moyes.
3) I very much doubt it.
4) No, but strong rumours that he may do
5) Not that anyone is aware of. Few names being thrown about such as Holtby, Dempsey, Ince and Phillips
6) If you mean someone other than the supposed Owen, then I don't know.
7) Depends on the situation. If Wigan or someone else comes in with a decent offer (3-4mil) then I suspect he will go, otherwise he will stay)

Hope this helped.

why is everyone being so negative about this rodwell business? I think we have done a great bit of business for a decent centre mid who is injury prone and unproven. Rodwell rarely took games by the scruff of the neck as fellainin so often does. we have felli, gibbo, leon, barkely, junior who all play cm with neville and heitinga capable of filling the midfield gap. I think we are most likely to have got 15million for rodders and we are likely to spend 7-10million of that. lets only have a go about how the board run things at the end of the window if we don't go and buy another player or two. It is disappointing to lose rodwell but for the right money i would much rather him go than baines or felli. I think we will use some of the money to the banks and the rest on a right mid and back up striker. let's be positive for a change! COYB 1878barlow {Ed025's Note - good message pal..

I think we should be very happy with the transfer window so far – my thoughts on why…
We finished last season with form and confidence, and the opinion around the traps was very clear... "Don't sell Baines or Fellaini, secure Pienaar on a permanent deal and try and bring in another striker". Since then, we have not sold Baines or Fellaini, however we have released or sold a few players on the cheap to free up expenditure on wages, such as Cahill, Yobo, Straquilursi, Drenthe, McFadden, Hahnemann. None of which contributed to the form of the team in the back end of last season. Players that we continued to wait-on to deliver something in the first team (Baxter, Wallace etc.) have been sold off with high return add-ons to give us at least a chance of future earnings.
We added a free agent in the form of Naismith, who has already shown he will be of significant value this season and secured Pienaar permanently. We have now cashed in on a player (Rodwell) who hasn't really contributed much yet, but plays in a position where we are well resourced with options. If even half of Rodwell's money can go into securing one/two first team quality players in positions where we are understaffed, then I think this transfer window will have been a significant step forward in the first team squad at the managers disposal, with youngers like Barkley, Junior, Duffy etc adding squad depth when required.
I watch the coming days with great anticipation. {Ed025's Note - cracking post mate..love it..

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I read that comment from Mancini and believe you me if it wasn't for Everton who mind you were not trying to win against Man U then he would have probably been sacked. So all you Everton supporters (I live in Australia) make up a song and just give it to Mancini all day when they play us next. I would love to be there. Arrogant Maggot.

I'll get shot down for this I know but when you look at it in recent years so many good young players have come through into the first team and then seem to have gone backwards! I dont blame Rodwell for getting out. examples Coleman, Anichebe, Vaughan be sad to see Barkley go the same way. Moyes just doesnt seem able to bring them on!

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Sorry but I disagree, of the players mentioned none have been good enough? Realistically apart from Rooney and maybe Lescott Which players that Moyes has gotten rid of have gone on to better things after leaving us? Moyse seems to know exactly when to get rid of players in my opinion.

Bluestu1878

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't bring them on??

Coleman was plucked for 50K and has even if he never gets any better, he still has been a great acquisition and you cannot find squad depth at that price anywhere. Ever think Coleman's shortcomings are about his decision making more than anything else?? Decision making takes years to develop if it doesnt come natural.

When we find a Coleman for 50k, or Vellios for 120k, you are obviously taking on a player where the magnitude of their potential is not universally agreed, otherwise you would not be able to get them for this money. Then we get them, they perform OK, but somehow its the coaches fault if they dont become Rooney??

Rodders has been hit by injury more than lack of ability. He is now caught in a congested midfield area against players with more 'standout qualities' rather than being a solid allround player.

If we could uncover one Coleman/Vellios every year, buy for nothing, use as a squad player for a few years and sell-on for 1-2Mn once they are surplus, and continue to bring through a potential supertar (Rodwell/Barkley) every 3 years for either lengthy first team runs or significant profits... then the staff are doing what they should be doing.
