West ham this seasons version of Everton last season, invest heavily but unable to integrate together as a team. This season is looking like we have finally got it right with regards to DoF and management team. Can't wait for next week and to feel Goodison rocking again.

I really hate west ham and I couldn't be happier what happened to them over the weekend, but come on, they played Liverpool, who will do what the did against West ham to a lot of teams this season, don't judge them on that game, if it was Brighton or Cardiff, yeah I'd agree, but this is Liverpool, who to be honest I think have a great chance to win it this year.

They are not as good as City playing against tight deep defences and don't see the recruitment changing that. I think 2nd for Liverpool, can't see them winning it. They play amazing football but look at last season united knew how to grind out results. City all day for me.

Lots of positives. Jags will certainly be replaced now. Thought Walcott was pretty quiet. Everyone else put a shift in and we looked in control up to sending off and feel we would have won comfortably. Nice to see us press high even with 10 men and aggressive last season we would have got beaten 2-1. Didn’t think Schneiderlin played to bad but feel he’s everyone’s scapegoat. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully Richarlson not to badly injured.

schneiderlin top three players on the pitch mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2018 18:15:31
No he was not. Most of his passes are either sideways or backwards or put a teamate in trouble. I have confidence though that Silva will get him playing like his first season. He is not being made a scapegoat.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 09:54:15
No mate its just that fans are fickle and call him a scapegoat because he turns up occassionally and forget the times that he's ghosted it on the pitch, virtually leaving us a man down seemigly not giving a toss as he strolls around the pitch.

Hi Eds I have a question which I am wondering if you could shed some light on
So the window has slammed shut, well. we kept it slightly open to get Big Kurt over the line
Now there is all this talk of players going out on loans to championship clubs so my question is are these purely loans or can they also be loans to buy or similar?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Simple loans. If there is any separate agreement to habe a formal option to buy that has to be notified on the TMS - but a separate gentleman's agreement can exist.}

12 Aug 2018 20:20:17
Excuse my ignorance but what’s TMS?

{Ed002's Note - It is FIFA’s Transfer Matching System that contains all details of transfers.}

We had more of an identity, more of a purpose, more direction, more fight and had more ambition with ten men last night than we had lat season with 11. didn't think it was a foul nevermind a red, and thata ltered the game but it was more pleasing to see how we did with ten men. Apart from Keane ball watching I thought we were better defensively without sacrifising the attack. Walcott only just back from injury and rhe new players to bed now. Good early signs. Much better stuff with rge small amount of time.

Keane ball watching?
Look at the build up to the goal, and stop just jumping on the Keane bandwagon. It wasn’t his fault he was left with two to mark, and it wasn’t his fault the cross wasn’t blocked.

12 Aug 2018 17:45:48
Agree Woburn I think Keane had a good game he was left with 2 to mark for the 2nd goal were was the rest in Holgate, don't think I could find fault though impressed with what I saw and that was without the newbies looking forward to seeing Bernard, Mina, Gomes and Zouma add to yesterday's team good times ahead.

A lot of people thought it was keanes best game and I probably think the same. he's far too quite for me but with Holgate next to him he seemed much more composed.

The goal should been stopped before the cross came in.

The rest of your post blue I'm with you all the way. 😉.

12 Aug 2018 22:51:59
Coleman dropped off to track the runner on the overlap and schneiderlein just casually walks back, its him who should be closing the cross down but he just doesn't have the positional awareness to do this.

Well chuffed with the fight, determination and spirit shown in the game by most. Think we looked more dangerous with Baines taking more set pieces. Think the right side of midfield needs addressing as in my opinion not enough crosses, Coleman looks quality but needs a Lookman rather than Theo who looked lack lustre. Keane looked like he had stepped his game up until his normal ball watching. On the whole it was nice to watch EFC and enjoy it again, good things to come.

I've looked at the sending off a couple of times. In all honesty, if it had happened to us, I think we would have been baying for a free kick but a sending off - don't think so

At the end of the day it was bad control by Jags that caused it. Is it a 3 game ban? Whatever it is it makes selection for Silva a little easier next week.

I thought we coped with only having 10 men well. Keane and Holgate had good games except for Keane losing the ball/ man for the second. Rest of team did well, maybe Pickford a bit rusty and Walcott off the pace but a promising start, helped, if I'm honest, by a Wolves side who didn't really go for it

Hope injury to Richarlison isn't too bad. He looked a steal at 50m or whatever it was and look forward to seeing a few more of the new boys next week

Got to be honest. Look how much the lads ankle bends with Jags studs. I said yesterday it wasn't a red but having watched it back the referee got it right, how he got it right though is beyond me.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 11:13:40
You could be right dfs if you have scrutinised it be from my one and only look it didn't for me, anyway good refereeing if he saw it.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:12:57
I couldn’t even argue that yesterday, for me it was a clear foul and a straight red.

Totally out of control and wreckless lunge, studs up and caught the guy as well as the ball.

I’ve put a few of them in myself and it’s a red card every time.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:24:06
I doubt he saw it. He just saw Jags lose the ball then lunge in and therefore called it a red. No way he saw anything else. And to top it off he goes over to where the player is lying then marks the free kick from there clearly not seeing the player roll three tones to get there. The ref is a melon plain and simple. Whilst it was a foul I don’t think the ref knew it at the time. Correct decision purely fluked by the ref.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:38:26
To be honest it was a foul and he was the last man. Therefore by the letter of the law, it was a red. Harsh it maybe, the fact is Jags caused it by poor control.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i know im biased pauly but no more than a yellow for me mate..

12 Aug 2018 14:37:41
bw2412 v2.0, initially he sent him off for "denying a clear goalscoring opportunity" which is a one match ban. After the game he reviewed it, changed his mind said it was "violent conduct" which is a 3 match ban. So, if the game had ended a 0-0 draw and he had disallowed a goal in said game, if he reviews it post match, finds he was wrong, does he change the result to a 1-0 win? He had a clear view of the Jags incident, he made his mind up instantly, so why was there a need to review it post match?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 14:59:02
It's interesting. People I've spoke with who are over the 40 say yellow card max. And the younger people all say red card. Yes his error but he can't just stop, he has to go for that tackle. He clearly went for the ball, he got the ball. I do concede the follow through on that ankle looks bad though. Either way I have a feeling that was going to be one of very very few starts anyways. No point appealing.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 20:10:25
That explains why, at 39.9, I think it was a red. Based on the lower half of his body being off the floor and part of his foot being above his knee, it’s a red card for me irrespective of whether he got the ball or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 22:32:28
Only a one game ban lads. But with the new signings Is that jags last game as a Everton player.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 09:00:43
There comes a time when the balance between age and experience swings too far that it becomes a burden. I think we're at that point with Jags. What a servant he has been. Quick, clever, hard and most of all loyal.

But at some stage you become a target of the opposition because you're seen as the week link and I feel that time is now. If we go through this season with Jags starting then we are vulnerable.

I'm hoping that we get a new starting paring and use Jags from the bench to come on and give us the experience when games need managing in the last 10 minutes.

All good things come to an end.

What I've got from yesterday's game, we now have a stronger squad in depth, we have players who can come in and replace anyone all over the pitch, this showed yesterday with the performance, give it a few more weeks and I think we will really start seeing us taking teams apart.

So far I am extatic. Baines looked like his old self now he has a bit pf quality on his side and a player who works hard getting back too. The 2 goals we conceded were mistakes. The 1st by Jags who I love but as I have been saying is getting slower and slower to react. The 2nd by Keane who was caught between 2 forwards. His inexperience and lack of leadership is apparent to me. He has a mouth and should be bossing that defence making sure he only had 1 forward to mark. I saw us concede too many goals like this last season. But Mina's height and hopefully his experience will sort those type of goals out. Holgate is looking more and more assured and like I previously said will probably feature more this season. Pickford was at fault for the 1st. No doubt about that too. But overall a great shot stopper. not sure why he moved to the right? Bad decision. Yes Jags is now past it I think. Baines can still go on but is likely to pick up niggles and at least we now have options in the squad with other players to come in.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2018 10:49:27
degsyp, I normally agree with you and do so this time up to a point with Keane. The lad had two in the centre to mark correct, but looking at the play, our DM's really need to move left and right at times - admittedly Gueye does his job, but Schneiderlin (yes I know for all you that have a go at us for constantly having a go at the lad) really has to make a positive move instead of this one step forward - I am coming for you pretence - and two steps back. The bloke did make some break up play yesterday but with his experience, he really should be making a mark on the game. On the positive side, didn't think Silva could make a difference so early but that was an overall positive performance and a determined one at last.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:11:06
Keane was not at fault for the second goal. The guy had all day to pick his pass from the edge of our box. Midfield should have been on his toes blocking the cross, not standing admiring it. Even young Holgate was having a go at them for standing off.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:15:12
I haven't looked at it again DFS, but you may be right. It's just that I remember Keane doing the same a few times last season. At times he looks great, but he has a mouth and needs to learn to use it. This is what experience does. Players should be communicating with each other and if they have a man free in our box, it is 100% up to the center half (s) to talk to each other and make sure both forwards are marked. Maybe Baines should have been shouting to Keane that there was a man behind him? Either way I have seen Keane in that position a few times now where the ball goes over his head by 6 inches and there is a forward behind him ready to knock it in. Other than that he sometimes looks good. Its all about positional sense and opening your mouth to make sure all forwards are marked one on one. Re Holgate, I can see him playing with either Mina or Zouma this season. The lad looks great.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 16:52:13
If you give a quality player time to pick his pass then he will. Had Keane gone to the back post then he would have played it to there man on the front post. Then you would have been blaming him for not marking him. Fact is the midfield at the moment are just not good enough. But hey let’s look to the future and not dwell in the past, as hopefully that is about to be addressed.

That Wolves team is going to create problems for many teams with 11 men so I'm very satisfied that we were unbeaten yesterday. That will be a point gained on many teams that will go to wolves and get beat.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Believable1 Unbelievable2

12 Aug 2018 08:54:26
He was better GB but we want this consistently. I think he gets the same stick as Mirrallas because both of them do it for one game then not for the next 5.

Fingers crossed he will keep it up.

12 Aug 2018 09:01:31
I thought the whole team played well at times last night. Some better decision making and execution in final third and we would’ve scored another 2-3 goals. The only player that I was disappointed with was Walcott and only because he can bring much more to the table than he did against Wolves. Keane done ok too, he got his head on a few good crosses to clear his lines. Schneiderlin got amongst the Wolves midfield and broke up their play.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 09:53:31
Morgan looked like back to his old self very steady and reliable in the middle of the pitch, think MS has a plan that all the guys are playing to and its helping them a lot I see a team playing that we didn't see last year when wolves equalised we could have let our heads drop like last season but we fought and could have won it roll on next game and see the new guys in the squad.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 11:30:17
Sorry lads but I just do not see it in him. He is not even consistent for a game. It really is baffling because the Morgan Schneiderlin of the first Season was just what we needed, he could spot a pass and broke up play at will. Unfortunately this season I am unable to follow this brilliant team away from home so admit all I can do is comment on what I see on screen. He has this annoying habit of making as if he is going for the tackle and then stepping back, that's okay if you are a fullback and shepparding your man out to the flank or corner but not as a DM and certainly not just out of our area. Overall (as I said earlier) I am really pleased with the way Silva seems to have instilled confidence in the side but what is more pleasing is the knowledge we have 4 class players ready to come in and make a difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 12:10:15
What we are missing playing Schneiderlin and Gana together is a midfielder who can boss the game, neither can do that.
Against wolves a commanding centre mid would have ripped that wolves team to pieces.

Agree Smit, play one or the other. They just don’t work as a pair.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:25:27
I agree Smit. I'm hoping that we play Gomes on the left side of centre mid. he's not a defensive midfielder and we brought him to Barcelona to cover Iniesta.

He has an eye for a pass but personally I don't think the fans will take to him because he tries that difficult pass that most of the time doesn't come off. When it does though tends to be a clear chance.

Hopefully, it's the Gomes from Valencia rather than the Barcelona one.

In the heat of the moment, I was furious about the red card. On reflection, you see them given regularly now. Ref should have taken his time, but, we played well with 10. Some of the first time, direct passing is already coming off and it’s early days. Wherever we finish, we’ll see some exciting, positive football this season. COYB!
