I really hope Pickford has a good world cup as he has the makings of being an exceptional keeper. The thing that concerns me is if he has a stinker, his confidence will be at rock bottom when he comes back and it will be us who will have to pay the consequences for it.

As a professional he should have enough about him to get over it, in fact he should be professional enough to not let it effect his game with us, but he is human and it will be that what gets in the way.

Saying that, if he has a good world cup he will come back buzzing and on top of his game, he will then be under a different kind of pressure and that is knowing top sides around the world will be looking to sign him, we all know this effects players in different ways.

With this being the start of the clubs rebuild I think that this could not of happened at a worse time for us, personally I would of been happier him not getting picked yet as an England fan I am happy that he has been. I do however think it a big gamble and we could potentially get stung regardless of the performances he makes.

Knowing the English press they will probably have a go at the whole team weather they play or not . but I know where your coming from grumpy2.

I know what you are saying but these are the tests Pickford needs. I rhink overall it will do him well. He seems to have a good strong character also. But ye it would definately easier on the nerves knowig he is safe until the season starts.

According to the press the likes of Bayern Munich and Man U are already watching him 🤦🏻‍♂️.

I agree with every word of that Blue-tit.

But if he has a good world cup everyone would be after him?

They can sniff around all they like. He's our keeper and they can't have him!

He had a bit of a rough time a Sunderland to be fair. He must have picked the ball out of the net a hundred times but it didn't seem to phase him. He's got a good head on his shoulders.

Carvalho handed in his resignation at SL, apparently. Think we’d have a good shout due to his links with Silva wnd asduming we can shift a few!

players cannot simply resign from a club and move elsewhere.

I think it’s a little more complex than a simple resignation.

Aye, I'd love to stay at a job where I'm being publicly chastised by the owner then being threatened, battered by the fans. Hold them against their will, Sporting, good on ya!

I'm not sure you understand the rules of employment as a footballer.

In a 'normal' job like your own, of course you can resign. But you don't get bought and sold, tied down to multi year contracts. Do you really think a footballer who was bought for say, 40 mil, can rock up into work and resign because he's not happy?

Under normal circumstances, no, of course not, but what’s going on at SL isn't normal.

There’s a difference between being “unhappy” and being threatened.

I assume the players are claiming SL as a club, has broken the terms of their employment contract, failing to protect players in the work place.
They were attacked by hooligans on the training pitch.

I'm of the understanding the players gave the club an ultimatum and now feel they had to follow through with their threats to not play again.

It's a funny one. I usually hate all this. Different to the Rangers Naismith deal. That still put our club in a situation where it oughtnt have been. But if any one of us normal folk was attacked by 30 ultras at work, I'm sure we'd likely do the same. If we can make these our players, and fairly. I'm all for it. If it means yet more rubbing clubs up the wrong way, we should probably be a bit careful it doesn't become a habit.

To be fair anyone can terminate a contract as long as they meet the conditions therein. We do not live (or at least not legally) in a slave society.

There will be laws in force to protect players and clubs. A club holding a player against their will when their wellbeing is at risk doesn’t sound right to me.

I’m sure those players looking to leave will put enormous pressure on the board to either sell cheap or terminate the contract.

In fact the contract probably has something in it to protect players from this circumstance. I have no idea though.

Couple that with them being able to hire the best lawyers in the business and I can’t see SL winning this one.

13 Jun 2018 01:47:35
Yes Worcester but sporting failed to provide reasonable protection to the players which I assume the players are considering a breach of contract on safety grounds allowing them to break their contract although I would fully expect SL to argue against this so I wouldn't expect any of them signing for anyone else for some time.

Just reading the different rags today re all the comings and goings and I see the Turkish outfit are now baulking at Klassens price, it got me thinking what could we realistically get for the players we are trying to sell, all the powers that be must be thinking they will going for a snip of their true value and will be queuing up for a bargain, any thoughts folks?

I think with probably all the club's everyone will have a different price in their minds about the players, it's meeting that price in the middle and sorting out a deal I'm guessing clubs try to get players cheaper as wages are now higher than ever. Taking our players we need a lot off the wage bill but need the funds aswell so I'm sure Brands will work his magic.

13 Jun 2018 01:46:57
Surely we will have to be open minded about perhaps selling players for less than what we value them at?

We could hold out for a top price, no one bids, player sits in the u23s squad for the next 3 years on huge wages and then leaves on a free transfer at the end!

I think we need to, and the players need to accept that we are all losing out here otherwise the player also ruins their career.

I like it when at this stage of a window when Everton is not being linked with various "targets" and we aren't monitoring or tracking people (always sounds a bit creepy) . I comfort myself that there is work going on behind the scenes to bring in the next Mahrez or Kante or even Coleman.

Keeps me happy anyway.

How dare you leave bolaise out (plays on the left but that doesn't matter) he is twice as good as Salah and Messi.

Ed :
I know that when a player is injured there is insurance compensation, how does this apply if the player eg Bolasie cannot regain his past form following a bad injury?

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to form. It only relates to long-term unavailability.}

I can see bolasie moving on he has bags of skill but no end product what killed him off for me was in the Derby game at goodison when Walcott picked the ball up deep in our half and ran across the 18 yard box looking for bolasie unfortunately he was hiding by the corner flag and showed no effort of even moving for the ball.
