Don't tell my wife to be I think I'm falling in love with Roberto Martinez!

I can see us having a new centre forward by Wednesday, Martinez, is very cool the way he does business no one has a clue when or who will sign. He is full of surprises remember the summer

Good signing of Aiden McGeady, but I personally feel that with Barkley, Alcaraz, Distin, Kone, Gibson, Deulofeu all injured, Pienaar going off injured today and Jelavic being sold, we need 2 more players, the bench looked weak today, I think a striker is a must and then maybe another midfielder. When everyone's fit, we'll have a squad that'll look big for once, but at the moment it does look thin.

Ince and Batshuayi would do me for this window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 20:07:22
The game after next could be the perfect setting for mcgeady to steal the hearts of all blues fans an break the hearts of all reds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree mate, I was saying the exact same thing to the fella behind me today, bench looked a bit diluted today and was looking wondering who could change the game /grab a goal if we so needed it

Another win and pretty solid performance.
Keep it going. One day we may batter someone 17 nil. Lol

{Ed025's Note - I'm not sure who he is logged in as now dunc, but he has been a regular poster for a number of years now mate..

11 Jan 2014 18:27:21
Another great win but we are losing too many players to injury, cannot remember a time when so many star players were sidelined.
Barkley possible broken toe?
Yes we keep winning but can it go on if we lose any more?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Mushy.

This is where we rely on lady luck and hopefully for once we can strengthen in January. It is going to be tough from here on in and perhaps at times we are going to have to dog it out.
Fingers x Ross will only be weeks rather than months.
We need depth now and and someone to bang in 10-15 goals for us on their own.
I hope Roberto gets the backing of the board because I think we have the best opportunity in years to break the top 4.

Danny Ings AW

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as we all love the xmas period of so many games I think this year its taken its toll in terms of injuries to key players, however the lads that have steppped in have been fantastic and have taken their chances.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 18:14:41
I think Mcgeady is going to be a fantastic player for us.
And I can't wait to see him whipping out the Mceady spin at Goodison haha but he hasn't trained for a couple of weeks so I don't think we will see much of him for 2-3 weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think he'll be fantastic, but not as bad as everyone is saying. And yeah, all he has to do is one McGeady spin and the Goodison faithful will be loving him. Waited a long time to see one in person

Ratings:

Howard-8-made 2 great saves and looked relaxed

Coleman-6.5-not much on offer from him today, very quiet but looked slightly worrying when redmond went at him

Stones-7-very silly in the first half and made two big errors but that didn't stop him second half as he kept playing the ball from the back and did it very well

Jagielka-8-solid game today and looked comfortable on the ball

Baines-8-very solid game today and got forward well but looked clueless when we went to 3 at the back

Barry-9-love him I really do, gave it away 3 times which is bad for him! But was always there for a pass, kept the ball and put in a great cross which lukaku should of buried, need to sign him

Mccarthy-8-great today again going forward and did his job as well as he could, neat and tidy as usual

Mirallas-7-before his goal he did nothing but afterwards he got involved more, tracked back and was everywhere

Pienaar-6-didnt do much besides going backwards and always looking for baines

Osman-6--had his best game in an everton shirt and was still our worst player! He is absolute crap!, okay I am joking, he did alright I guess but denied us 2 goalscoring opportunities by taking the ball away from jags when he had a clear shot and took the ball away from mccarthy when he had a clear shot on goal, need barkley back though asap

Lukaku-6-looked fresh today but naismith was one on one with the keeper and he tried for a shot himself, didn't do much but roam around

Heitinga-6-did nothing wrong but didn't have much to do

Naismith-7-if he loses it people are calling for his head, he then wins it back and they do not even clap him, shameful but did very well when he came on and by no means deserves the title of one of our worst ever players and tbh I'm glad we signed him

Linesman-0-he was awful, never seen a linesman as bad as that

Good performance today and sorry to that person on the everton rumours who said mcgeady was at the reception, my post wasn't posted thank god but I did take the mick, sorry mate and even though I did not want him, he is here now and as long as he gives it is all I will support him, welcome to everton aiden mcgeady, once everton touches you nothing will be the same

Mike-Ox Long

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good ratings, Mike. I'd have given Stones an 8, though, to be honest. He was a bit stupid on more than one occasion in the first half, but those moments of stupidity developed into moments of inspiration for the majority of the second, and his defending was reliable throughout. Naismith is terrible, no matter what you say. He is without doubt the worst player I, personally, have ever witnessed at Goodison. There may have been worse before my time, but he takes the prize by a long way now. The Heitinga substitution was fair enough; we were practicing a potential future tactic in a game that was practically won, and it was possibly his last appearance, but the second Naismith was on we started to get dominated because it severed all connections between the midfield and striker. The is no justification for him coming on instead of Oviedo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure how long you have been going AB, but personally Naismith is nowhere near as bad as the likes of Brett Angell or Paul Holmes who in my opinion are comfortably two of the worst players who have played for Everton! In more modern times I'll throw Per Koldrup into the mix as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Naismith is hardworker that is what he makes for his lack of goals personally I like him.

You must be a year old then mate as denis straqualersi was woeful, nice lad could run all day but could be delivering coal so much as playing centre forward for everton, phillipe senderos is another, richard wright in goal was another dreadful sight, naismith isn't a winger he is a forward being played out wide, he works his socks off and gets stuck in, his positional sense is superb and for a free transfer he really isn't bad, he chips in with his fair share of goals and assists and can jump as high as tiny tim, rather him than magaye gueye who is another awful player

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed039's Note - Coming from a Rangers fan, Naismith has got the best spring for a "wee guy" I have ever seen in my life)

Got to agree with some of Mike's comments (for once). Wasn't it Richard Wright who fell over the warning sign in the goal and got injured when warming up at Chelsea? Written on the warning sign was something like, "do not use this area to warm up whilst the sign is present!" Then on another occasion he fell out of his loft at Christmas and was out injured until March? Brains? What Brains? LOL

Great result today, I'm not to sure on mcgeady I don't think he'll move the club forward but I'm going to trust Martinez on this one. I'd be very happy with Michy Batshuayi though. Heard lots of strong rumours about him, and a decent price tag considering his age and quality

Barkley broken toe!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 17:13:36
Watched the game on TV here in Ontario. Well taken goals, good movement, sharp passing and huge possession that should have created more goals. Its our Achilles heal. Some sloppy defensive work late on could have caused some issues. The game is whistle to whistle. Very happy with the 3 points and good on the boys for a professional display. I expect EFC to sign a Forward to ease the burden on RL particularly as there are 3 away games coming up, so let's see what occurs. COYB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There might be a plan. Rumours abound that we're in for two strikers. The £10M Serbian striker Tudic (Dadic? Sorry, I forget his name) guy and Batshuaye may be bought for £7-8 M but then loaned to Anderlecht for the rest of the season, for £1M loan fee. You never know. Sort of plausible if we really did have £10 M to spend and just made up to £7 M on Jela.

Agree0 Disagree0

, it's 'Dusan Tadic', onlyhaveeyesforblues. Love the way the mind has a way of mashing things together when we try to remember them :P he's a winger, anyway, not a striker, but a top quality one nonetheless, and Batshuayi would be an exciting addition.

Fantastic bit of business for Jelly £7.5 million with add ons, I can see Bobby must have a striker lined up that hasn't been mentioned in these columns, wow am I well chuffed c'mon you blues good win today GuernseyBlue

11 Jan 2014 11:24:41
With Jela looking like he's off, I'm sure Bob will have a suitable replacement lined up. Although, I'd rather we signed a markee striker in the Summer. I'd love to see Remy at Goodison, I think he'd get us bags of goals with his lightning pace and movement. In the mean time, even if we don't get a striker this window we still have Gerry and Kev who can fill that role if Rom gets injured.

Most papers are saying the fee is around £5m surely as so many clubs are desperate for a recognised striker this figure would be somewhat inflated due to demand in the january window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 10:24:38
Wonder if bobby is going to replace jela with naismith.after all he is a striker/CF. We all complain about him but he constantly gets played out of position.the only time I've seen him play up top was hibbos testimonial and he scored a hat-trick.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

strikers to replace jelly

fingbgosan from hevereen 7 mil looks real talent scores lot goals could be good striker like suarez from dutch leauge but could flop like alfonso alves
ings 5 mil looks good but one good sesson not worth risk
rondon 10 mil rubin kazan good goal scoring record
jonas 10 mil good but he is 29 so getting on now
or if kenwright really wants champions leauge muriel like someonelse meitioned good goal threat young fast 20 mil but doubt we could convince as lot top sides want him but you never now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gareth bale had one good season and imo is largely overrated I wouldn't pay half of that for him but 5m for danny ings doesn't look bad and will only get better and has time to adjust, 5m will bw worth it imo he can't be as bad as jelavic or anichebe. Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Im hoping for rondon seen him malaga he's beast he reminds me of negerdo

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Mike. I said much the same in an earlier post today. Let's go get Danny Ings from Burnley.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 13:07:06
batshuayi would be my choice, even if we have to put some cash towards the deal aswell as funds received from jelly sale.

Just heard from a lad that the reds are considering putting in a 7 million bid for Ings. Come Roberto let's steal a march on them. Get in early and bid right under big Brenda's nose!

RM has said that he doesn't intend in bringing in to many players because he feels it may ruin the gel that the squad has created but with Jelavic leaving to Hull we have to bring in a forward. He would not sell one of two strikers if there was not a striker on his way. He has also reiterated that the loan market is a great way off purchasing players. For me, Alvaro Morato on loan seems to be a good option with Real Madrid saying they will listen to offers. Four over names which spring to mind are michy batshuayi (a player who's agent has had a dsipute with his club) Lacazzette from Lyon, Shane Long (his contract runs out in the summer) and Demba ba ( Chelsea want a big name striker leaving number 3 striker Demba ba either available on loan or for around 6-8 million).

Any thoughts? Ed

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im not a big demba ba fan josh, for me he seems to perform when it suits him, i woudl be happy with one of the other 3 though mate..

Shane Long? Have you two lost leave of your senses! He is nowhere near the standard we are looking for. A lower prem team/championship striker at best. He's garbage

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 11:54:59
Demba ba is woeful, old, lazy and has a first touch jermain beckford could laugh at. Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

I mentioned Morata a while ago and every1 said no chance have there been any enquires Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - I believe he has been looked at lew, I imagine price will be. A factor though mate..

He would be a fantastic signing even on loan and tbh I don't think lukaku is worth 25-30 mill I would rather splash out on this lad.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 08:19:53
5m for Jelavic, I have a lot of faith in Martinez but mgeady & Ince are more squad players in my view, Ed what sort of player should we be targeting?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - for me a striker dvd, its the only position where we dont have quality back up mate..

11 Jan 2014 00:43:48
Is there going to be a replacement for jelavic ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i suspect so blakey, bobby has said we will be stronger after this window mate..

11 Jan 2014 09:45:06
First of all, I want to hope all the best to Jelavic and think he will be a succes, always admired him. McGeady and Ince looks more than promising, but I heard from you guys that one of them will replace Pienaar in the squad. and hope not, because he's my favorite player :D And finally, Lacazette is a posibillity, for the summer I belive because, let's be honest, Lyon rejected 10mil from Arsenal, we would have to put 13-14mil on the table to get him. Cheers!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 09:11:26
If we want a long term great striker what about muriel although he would cost 20m+ which we have (felli, big vic, jelavic money) think he will be a great striker and fit in Martinez system

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 10:18:16
Good player but has halted in his development, like walcott he doesn't seem to be getting any better and for 20m+ he is not worth it, I would pay 12m tops, exciting and talented but cannot see him scoring 20+ goals in the prem nor replacing lukaku long term imo

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

We already have one in Lukaku, enough money on the table and Chelsea will sell and I honestly think he would sign.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 08:37:01
Do we have any money to spend without selling first Eds?
Would be worried if we lost Jela without a like replacement - be happy with Ince and mcGeady coming in but not as direct replacements.

From the Felli money, £13 mill gone on James Mc, £5 mill on Kone, add in wages and loan fees for GB and RL and there's another 6/7 mill. Doesn't leave a lot!

Be a real shame if we couldn't get a quality striker in to help RL and really push for top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Yes there is money there, but by selling some fringe players you will be able to sign some better quality players}

Pleas correct me if I am wrong but didn't we say that we didn't need to sell to get the cash for McCarthy. if this was right then we should have a lot more money to spend now.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 02:53:00

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2014 08:10:15
I am a fan of shane long he works hard, gets involved, quite quick and can't half jump but he will not get 15 goals a season never mind the 20 we need, martinez will have someone better lined up

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted this earlier in the week on the Rumours page and I still say that we should looking at Danny Ings from Burnley this month. With Jelly looking likely to move and Kone out, we are exposed if Romelu gets an injury.
This lad is class and has already scored into double figures. He's only 21 and could learn a lot from Lukako if they were training together. Yes he's going to command a hefty fee but we have the cash after banking the mop head money in August. How do others feel? I'd hate it if someone else takes a punt on him and we miss out on a potential bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please please PLEASE not Shane Long. Massive step backwards

I wouldn't read too much into jelavic going means we'll get a new striker, especially if Mcgeady or nice or both come in as we can play mirralas up front. Martinez has said himself he sees him as an option as a striker. Too be honest I hope we've got someone in the bag though as we'd still be short up top. Can't wait to see who's going to come in.
