What happens if we get no points johny1989. Most agree the Squad has improved I put that down to Mr Brandts and his contacts. Where are we points wise compared with same stage last season, going on last three games I think we will finish in the same position.

Try a bit of optimism for once BCT. We may get all 6 ;-p.

if we got zero points from next 2 games we would be 1 point worse off than last year at same point, i would still be happy with that as its clear wer getting better whilst last year we wer stagnant and everyone was unhappy with the football, but i will put my neck on the line and say we get minimum 4 pts from next 2 games, we are suited to play against teams that are all about attack we struggle to break teams down who are set up defensively that's why i think we can score on the break against bot city and spurs.

Out of the next 5 games and the 15 points on offer how many do you think we can realistically get? A point a piece from both City and Spurs would be a good result imo. Then 9 from 9 the following 3 games v Burnley Brighton and Leicester. Total 11.

think spurs is the game to really go for and could be a spin in our season fortunes, giving the players a big boost In confidence.

11 Dec 2018 18:54:12
The last two games produced different tactics for us to overcome.
Newcastle defended in numbers and depth which we found difficult to breakdown and got caught on the break. Watford pressed and competed and we still couldn't find the space and creativity to break them down.
Siggy was poor in both matches which puts a strain on Gana and Gomes when facing the oppositions four man midfield and makes it a lot easier to hit us on the break.
Against Watford Bernard put in a shift and showed some brilliant one touch balls to release his team mates down the left. A better substitution would have been to take Siggy off, switch Bernard into the AM, move Ricky to the LW and bring on DCL as the central striker.
Also, Walcott despite the occasional cameo is not worth his place.
Finally, a word of support for DCL and Lookman, there is a player in both youngsters but if anyone thinks the odd game or last fifteen minutes is sufficient for them to deliver to the level expected is deluded.
Like in any sport confidence is a major factor and unfortunately you don't gain confidence by having limited opportunities to impress, it just increases the pressure to perform.
Both need a six game unbroken run to do themselves justice and with Walcott and recently Siggy failing to really contribute the downside risk is minimal to overall performance and could very well improve the team.
Without doubt it would prove if both players have what it takes.

{Ed025's Note - good post that fancy, i agree with it all mate..

11 Dec 2018 19:30:04
Good post Fancy, I personally think we went wrong bringing on all three attackers, I would have swapped Walcott for Lookman, if taking Bernard off then switched Richarlison to the left, stuck Calvert Lewin as the main striker and swapped The injured Gaye for Tom Davies.

For me too many forwards clumped together who were not getting the quality ball from either flank or behind being played to them due to lack of personnel in midfield being over run and closed down, once that was cut out we had no supply to the strikers.

As the saying goes, too many chiefs in attack Andy not enough behind them.

11 Dec 2018 20:23:34
Lookman not good enough.

Not yet GB I agree. Still young though. that's why he has not been picked. Not lack of ability. lack of maturity.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2018 14:10:09
He is certainly good enough GB. He needs a run of games as Fancy says. Managers tend to persist with players us fans think lost form for various reasons not least because they have their favourites that is human nature. Likewise that makes it difficult for those coming through.

First of all I would like to say special praise on Watford's performance last night, something that has been over looked and rather than look how well our opponents played, some would rather slaughter our own team.

Fair to say we did not play to our usual standards, but the doom mongers, sorry I should say the realists are back andin full voice again, telling every man and his dog and the dreamers among us how right they were.

Well Iam sorry but no one is putting me on a downer slating the club at every opportunity.

We all know we need a centre forward or two and that is killing us big time at the moment, however at this moment in time we are starting to build a team, Digni, Gomes, Richarlison all contributing and players we added last Summer.

Time and again I see Bernard pillored, last night he had a decent game in both attack and chasing back yet he got the usual flack, he did a damn sight more than the three subs that came on last night but still the fall guy.

We cannot win every game, we have no divine right to out play our opponents, that has to be earned, you cannot take into account how well the opposing team plays.

Just over 12 months ago we had Williams in defence, Keane struggling along side of him, Schnids in front of the defence, Bolasie partly on the left followed by Calvert Lewin playingon the wing and Niasse as the cameo striker.

In just 6 months, the team we have now is head and shoulders above last seasons team

We need to bring in two proven goal scorers and for me, I would let Tosun, Lookman and possibly Calvert Lewin, along with Niasse who it seems will be leaving next month.

This team is not the finished article yet by a long way, yet some seem happy to wade in and say we are no better than last season.

I am being more patient and allowing Silva to bring in his own team which will take a few transfer windows at least, the ones he has brought in so far are doing a great job so far.

So I give you the dreamer in me, I will not hide, I will not even say told you so when we get the results and performances, but I will never give up on my football club and fully be. ieve in Silva, a Brands, Moshi and the team, stick withthe team and have faith.

Coyb.

I agree, Watford played well and we were extremely lucky to get the draw. However, if we had been more ruthless in front of goal and less sloppy in defence it would have been a different story. While mistakes by individual players will happen as they get used to playing alongside each other, they've only been together a few months, the overall quality in the side has improved. If we can get a decent striker in in Jan the knock on effect will be massive and we'll have a closer knit more confident team.

11 Dec 2018 20:24:48
That's what we need BigH a striker mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Dec 2018 20:27:51
Too right big h, get a proven scorer in will make a huge difference, we switched off for the free kick that led to the first goal and paid for it.

We certainly need to sort a penalty taker out.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2018 13:43:54
I keep repeating this. our problems are not offensively thet are defensively. Look at the table and see how many we concede and how many we score. It is simple. Again we conceded 2 goals. That means we needed 3 to win. Likewise we conceded agains Newcastle so needed 2 to wil. Look at every fixture throughout so far and it is the same story. Top teams sometimes win 3 nil or 4 nil. but they also beat lots of teams 1 nil. Or even 2 nil or 3 nil. But the nil is the important bit. Guess how many clean sheets we have had this season including against lower league teams like Rotheram? Well I don't know so will look it up: Played 18 with 4 clean sheets! Terrible. That means in 14 games we had to score at least 2 to win. Simple.

Some pretty extreme responses to the last two games out there.
We are never going to win every game, and every now and again we won't be at our best. Anyone who expects different is deluded.
Watford hussled us all over the pitch and that is something we will have to get used to as we get better - because that's how sides set up against good teams.
What I feel has shown in the last few games - Liverpool game included is that we don't have enough goals in the team to put games to bed.
Its not about getting a 20 goal Striker as Richarlison is well on his way to being that guy. It's the lack of goals from Bernard/ Walcott and Set Pieces that is hurting us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - your right ONE, for me we are a bit tippy-tappy as well in our build ups and our crossing and set pieces need some work, siggy has not been at his best lately and gana as well and that would hurt any team, but im still happy the way things are going mate because we are still a work in progress..

11 Dec 2018 17:42:54
I think good young Origi would sort out all your problems Ed25 ;) want him? I know you admire his skills and all so thought I'd throw the idea out there :) .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - DCL is better than him salah....mind you so was carlton palmer mate.. :)

11 Dec 2018 13:54:16
this will be unpopular but I don't think Big Dunc is the right man to be coaching our forwards. Completely different to him and he was hardly prolific. I loved him as a player but think we have to put sentiment to one side and look at the coaching.

I think he should be moved to ambassador or help Rhino with u23s

Back to the drawing board after last night - all I know is that Bernard, Tosun, lookman and Walcott will cause us a lot of frustration for the rest of the time they are with club - good players but none would get into the top 6 teams.

Need some proven players in this league - Zaha and Decore would spring to mind.

I deleted all my EFC apps yesterday and reinstalled them 30 mins later - I'm Everton til I die (just hope they don't send me to early grave)

IMO Bernard may just need more game time in the PL he works well with Digne reminds me of the Baines and Peanuts early on in their partnership.

Even more unpopular I think Colman and sigs also are not doing it Colman has never been the same after the injury and sigs has a great game one week and then dose nothing for a month or so not consistent enough for me . I will probably get a roasting for saying that I also agree with you sobs about Dunc I've thought that for a few years now.

Dark clouds, sorry mate have to correct you, calling last night disgusting really flattered them, appalling I would have used, should think some of the dreamers will now wake up to reality, a couple of good spells in the Derby doesn't mean we're good enough, for Christ sake even Bournemouth had a couple of good spells against them and got murdered because Liverpool took their chances in that game.

Need to get this penalty taking situation sorted also - maybe someone can give some figures but how many penalties have we missed in the past 2 seasons - I know Rooney missed a few and Gylfi has missed a couple.

I agree but it's not long ago people said to take Walcott out and play Lookman, we didn't look the same team that was at the shed the other week our passing was slack and Watford were first to the ball most of the game.

I was quite surprised by that result last night, I thought you'd get the win. What I don't get is you played some great football against Liverpool, why has that not continued? sure it's only been 2 games since but going on how you did against us I imagined you to get some better results against Newcastle and Watford. City and Spurs coming up, good luck against City, I hope you smash them!

11 Dec 2018 06:28:23
That's 4 points dropped from the last 2 games imo. And I feel it's also really highlighted the fact that whilst Richarlison is a really good finisher he isn't a striker! .

I feel it's imperative that we bring in a top striker this January, sure this may be difficult and probably more reasonable for the summer but we won't be challenging for the top 6 with strikers like Tosun or Calvert Lewin as are No1 strikers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Dec 2018 07:26:40
We all know this mate and if we know I have no doubt our coaching staff know. Richarlison on one wing and a. n. other with a finisher up front is my christmas wishlist, oh and also for our defenders (keane) to stop making sunday morning schoolboy mistakes. We have a good coaching team and the top managerial structure is coming together, the Squad is not complete yet as some need to go and some need to come in but we can see the shape is coming. We need to stop being bitter about the Liverpools of this World and start aspiring for that consistency, it will come I have no doubt. Silva likes to press and it is enjoyable to watch, but to press consistently you have to be supremely fit and to keep that fitness you need a very deep Squad of quality (2 for every position) . My opinion, lucky last night to come away with a draw in the end. Top 7 is not going to be a gimme that is for sure, we will have to work hard and keep working.
