11 Aug 2016 22:49:41
Been reading koemans interviews and he sounds miffed, he takes a dig at the powers that be for not deciding on players futures in and out. I really hope that he doesn't decide it's all to much and walks, call me paranoid but look at his body language and comments he is not happy!

Believable3 Unbelievable3

12 Aug 2016 00:03:16
Don't talk nonsense he knows where he wants us to be and he will get there remember this is not koemans pre season it's all what Martinez set up. Koeman is a tough man to please ask any of his former team mates or former players who played for him, plus he learnt from the late great Johann Cryuff who let's not forget implemented the Barcelona style of play.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 00:16:27
No messing with Koeman, he says it like it is. The players and management better listen to him otherwise they will be in trouble. It was pretty obvious to all supporters that the players were half fit last year and the business side of the club definitely needs improving. Things will only improve if someone keeps pushing and Koeman is the man.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 00:29:34
i actually said yesterday i wouldn't be surprised if he walked, i don't think he seems to be getting the money that was promised, and he didn't realise the mess we are in, unfit players and plenty of injuries, if he stays, and builds his squad as he wants, then in time we should do really well with him.

Agree2 Disagree3

12 Aug 2016 07:40:35
I'm not saying he will but he has a 3 year plan with us and WE ALL KNOW he wants the Barcelona job. If he isn't getting what he was promised and his reputation as a coach is tarnished who knows! Again before every soft lad starts getting excited "IT'S JUST A THOUGHT OUT LOUD".
Anyways can't wait till Saturday win, lose or draw I'm glad the footie is back.

Svenny stated before about the fan base being toxic. Spot on. Dead right, Everton have become a deep dark toilet smoggy football fans.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

12 Aug 2016 00:48:13
Absolutely agree. I'm one of the most negative fans ever when I discuss Everton, but it's the poisonous fans at the games I can't stand. We've always had arguably the quietest and least supportive crowd in the league (at least in the 10 years or so I've been going) , but the amount of abuse players like Ross get week in week out is a disgrace. I may not be the kind of fan who stands on his seat and gets a song going, but I've never thrown abuse at my own player because I know it won't help.

Agree5 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 13:37:10
My posts on here are accused of being negative but when I am at a game I am right behind the boys. I hear some fans shouting abuse at players and actually wonder if they realise the meaning of the word "supporter".

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:48:58
Agree 100% with all of the above. Ross and the team got abuse within the first five minutes for practically every match last season, before they had a chance to make any mark on the game. It brings the team down and ruins the experience for supporters like myself who have had season tickets for years through thick and thin. I know it's gone on for years to a lesser extent with the likes of Osman and Hibbert targeted (often unfairly) , but I just feel like all the extra people who have been coming to Goodison over the last 2 seasons have just come to moan.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i get your point tommy and to a certain extent agree mate, its the modern culture im afraid and the persuit of instant sucess imo..

13 Aug 2016 14:24:51
I worry that it is going to spill over into this season as I make my way to the game. Hopefully Moshiri and Koeman have bought some positivity to the fans in spite of the result as I don't feel that we are ready for Spurs today! Either way, COYB!

So it Looks like were signing bolasie and kone. But i think our main target should be a quality no 8. A player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck. Mcarthy doesn't do enough for me when he's on the ball. Are you aware if we are linked with any cm eds? (And not matta)

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts. It is tedious to keep answering the same questions.}

11 Aug 2016 20:52:33
Intrest romours in the echo. Martins indi wants to come to efc and has turned down Kiev also wete tenatively linked with ziyech .

Also seen that we have bid 20m for slimani but it's been laughed off by sporting. They won negotiate unless we bid 30m euro .

Any truth any of the eds.

11 Aug 2016 20:26:19
Liverpool echo saying that koeman is wanting another striker to help ROM but we not interested in bony. i think r attempts to sign kone could fail because I think he and his agent r using us to get a better contract at Sunderland he seems like wants to stay there.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2016 18:58:05
Bit worried for saturday. if lukaku not fit then it's kone or jeery to lead the line.
Big ask but hoping either roms fit or ronny pulls a striker from somewhere and completes the deal before noon tomorrow.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

11 Aug 2016 18:39:28
R/ K telling it like it is, 70% fit, this is a damming issue, and can only be set at the door of Martinez, this 70%, afder kolman has worked them hard for four weeks, this goes to show we were right last season when many of us made the point that we wilted in the last 15 minuites, god knows how this man managed to talk his way into a top international job.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

11 Aug 2016 18:52:10
He literally talks a good game but with no substance. The thing is he is talking to very nice but naive men such as our Bill, saying the sort of stuff Bill and his ilk like to hear.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 20:24:28
I don't think we can blame RM for the fitness levels being at 70% when he has had no effective input for a few months now. It will be more down to the distractions caused by the Euro's and other international competitions meaning players were coming back to the club at different times during pre-season. Other teams will have similar concerns, not just us.
I think it was Hargreaves and Ferdinand who, during the recent testimonial for Rooney, said that players are never fully fit until after the first month of the season. Or words to that effect! Hopefully we will be totally fighting fit at around the same time the players get a grip of how RK wants them to play the game. What we've got to remember is that this is a long term project, there will be teething problems along the way.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 22:17:00
Exactly the 70% remark was to buy himself some time from what has become a very toxic fan base.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 22:41:06
Agree spudv but it doesn't help that all of last season the fitness wasn't where it should be. Makes it harder and longer now to make up the difference. It was obvious certainly on some players last season their fitness wasn't where it should have been. So how long ago was it when they were at a proper level of fitness for a professional footballer?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 18:39:17
Going by RK's press conference, Williams won't be ready for the weekend, Coleman and Lukaku are injury doubts, while Besic, Browning and Pennington are long-term absentees.
If the five players without squad numbers (Garbutt, McAleny, McGeady, Niasse and Rodriguez) aren't considered current first-them players by RK, that just leaves 15 aged-over-21 players available for selection: Baines, Barkley, Barry, Cleverley, Deulofeu, Funes Mori, Gana, Gibson, Kone A., Lennon, McCarthy, Mirallas, Oviedo, Robles and Stekelenburg.
There are also the aged-under-21 players who've got squad numbers: Davies, Dowell, Galloway (who might be going out on loan anyway) , Holgate and Tarashaj. Assuming no other aged-under-21 players are considered ready AND we don't sign anyone in time (I believe they'd need to be registered by midday Friday) AND the injured players don't recover, then we won't have that many players available for the 18-man match-day squad.
Anyone care to speculate about the starting XI and the subs bench?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2016 18:49:49
No Jags?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 18:59:22

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 19:00:20
NBTB: Whoops! My bad. Of course Jagielka should be in my list of 16 (not 15) available aged-over-21 players.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 22:24:08
What's your point Cowpat? Clearly the squad is bare, clearly from the same press conference you watched he said 3-4 players are needed that's 20 over 21s with 6 or 8 under. How many does a team with no euro football need?

I'd go for basing on all doubtfuls being out

Robles

JMac. Jags. Mori. Baines

Barry

Gueye. Davies

Barkley

Mirallas. Delboy.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 22:48:24
Svenny: who'd be your 7 players on the subs' bench?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 23:07:35
Steklenberg Holegate, Galloway, Cleverly, Lennon, Tarshaj (apologies for spelling) Conolly

For me the 4 players needed are a keeper, a centre mid, winger and striker.

I think the young defenders can fill in at fullback and I don't understand the Garbutt situation either. I think because of Besic another centre mid is needed then I think we need a striker as Kone and Niasse are not even registered within the squad and a winger/ 10 because we need creativity and we need a frickin exciting signing to appease a increasingly impatient and irrational fanbase.

Why can't we just make Goodison a nightmare again? Why are we so negative?

What are your (not explicitly you Cowpat) expectations? I'd take 10th and young players coming through this season. Then I'd expect top 8 in Koemans second year, followed by top 5 the season after if he wants his dream Barcelona job after that's what he needs to deliver anyway in my opinion.

Won't achieve anything near without a keeper though, all this talk of players and the foundation is being ignored, again. Tim had 2 seasons too many and we never addressed it.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 01:08:07
My best guess assuming there's no Rom or Coleman, (based mostly on preseason) would be:

Stekelenburg

Davies Galloway Mori Baines
Gueye Barry
Barkley
Lennon Deulofeu Mirallas

RK seems to prefer Stekelenburg over Joel. With Coleman out, the only options are Holgate, McCarthy or Davies. As he played him there a few times I'd suggest Davies may get the nod. Assuming Jags current level of fitness is poor due to a preseason marred by injury, it's a choice between Holgate and Galloway for that right CB position and although Holgate is right footed Galloway's experience would probably give him the nod. Due to an inexperienced backline I think that he would pick Barry alongside Gueye in the centre of midfield and then the rest of the team is pretty much a shoe in from this point on.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 08:25:10
I'd make just 3 changes to your team Blue Tommy. McCarthy to replace Barry. Holgate to replace Davies and Jags to replace Galloway. I think that's what he'll go with but may be wrong with him not going with Barry.

The thing I don't understand is a lot of people looking to sign another CM. We have Gueye, Barry, McCarthy, Cleverly, Gibson, Barkley and Besic when he returns. For me just because Besic is injured isn't a good enough reason to buy another player there.

7 players listed above for 2 positions. Why would you go out and buy another? We need a keeper, striker and even a winger more IMHO.

I'd buy a right back quicker than a CM too. We only have one properly regonised right back in Coleman. He gets injured then whoever comes in is just filling in.

Come to think of it the last 2 positions IMO we need to buy for is left back and CM. These 2 IMHO are our strongest positions in depth.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:57:17
I outlined the reasons for selecting that line up but I could well see your team being picked NBTB.

I agree with the CM thing. I realise that most of those are defensively minded, but for me if we go and buy someone Mata what do we do with him and Ross? You can't leave out Ross in my opinion.

I think we need a quality left winger. I am not the biggest fan of Bolasie, feel like he's another Geri, a mercurial talent who is incosistent and doesn't offer enough goals (Geri also offers more assists) . However he is another player who just causes trouble for the opposition, which is better than Cleverly or Kone on the left for sure!

I also agree that we need a top goalkeeper. Begovic, Butland or Forster would do for me.

Slimani would be a great addition and I'd happily pay £30m. Don't want a striker who is just a backup, as it would be good to have one who can play with Rom.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

11 Aug 2016 17:50:32
Hey

. RK inherited an 'unfit' squad courtesy of Bobby who prioritised 'ballwork' over stanina. hence many capitulations last season in the last quarter of games. Its a positive in my opinion that RK has recognised this, tells it like it is and will do something about t

Mart.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 17:53:05
Due to euros and the fact it wasn't his preseason and squad. I do believe the spurs game is going to be painful as we are short in numbers. No striker (please don't mention kone he's a joke) and midfield has no quality with defence going to be really struggling. I guess gerry up top with Holgate as CB.

Agree3 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 19:01:18
Most teams are at only 70% it's not worrying at all spurs game will be difficult but Spurs won't be 100% there best a lot of there performers last year will of come back to them later like a lot of players playing at euros it's not like we are playing Spurs bang on form plus the last 5 or 6 matches they were really struggling as well.
Every team will start the season equal 0pts and with same preparation as everyone else, let's get behind the lads Saturday they have had enough boos for long enough create the Goodson atmosphere that was not there last season.

KOEMAN WANTS TO KEEP LUKAKU

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is adamant he wants to keep Romelu Lukaku at the club.

The Dutchman said: "I don't comment on rumours. We have discussions with the board and with Steve Walsh, and we want three or four more players.

"Romelu Lukaku is still an Everton player and we want to keep our best players. Lukaku is doubtful [on Saturday] because of the cut from the Espanyol game, [Seamus] Coleman also has a problem as well. ".

Begining to wonder if the Transfer Window is too long or at least set at wrong time. Heard today both RK (saying were only 70%) and Alan Pardew saying not ready (he will be by end of window he says) . Maybe the window should be shut at least a week before start of the Season, so all teams have to be done n ready by then. Just wondering, what do others think?

I think every two years when there is a major tournament it affects teams with players that are away in terms of pre season preparations, half the team have a rest then a full pre season, while players attending the tournament are having a holiday at a key time.

Gotta say, RK presser was refreshing in hearing him being brutally honest about the team and players. Hope though he is careful how much he does it as support and encouragement is important too, or he'll start losing some of the players! Sure he know's that though. Looking forward to the 3/ 4 other players coming in as he seems to have identified the power and presence the team needs along with pace.

I agree Howie. He doesn't over elaborate and keeps it simple. I prefer this as it keeps expectations level and consistent and not over hype anything.

Looking forward to the 3/ 4 new players. I'm not a fan of Lukaku but it sounds like they will be declining any interest in him. I couldn't tell you who the players coming in are. Maybe Kone, maybe Bolasi, maybe Mata, maybe Bony but probably none of them!

Either way I can't be bothered thinking about new players. I'm all for the here and now and Saturday has been far too long in coming.

RK"s press conference was meant to be live on YouTube, but it wasn't: I just see a nessge that "the live event will begin in a few moments". The club just can't get these things right - it was the same with the problems streaming some of the preseason matches.
I'm glad that our proposed new stadium isn't on the site of an old brewery, as our club couldn't organise the proverbial in one of those! I hope that the professionalism of FM, RK, SW and other newcomers begins rubbing off on current staff :-)

TBH, I'm not crazy about Bolasie. I seem to recall Spuds linked with him a while back for around £20m. Palace fans were of the opinion he only turned up 1 out of 3 games and would happily see him go for a big fee. I think signing Kone is crucial though and would also love to see Bony but those rumours seem to have gone quiet. I see Arsenal linked today. Any update Eds?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2016 11:25:47
i think its a disgrace that stubhub can sell tickets for well above the face value, the ticket sellers should be ashamed of themselves, the club should not allow this to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly the club can't do anything about it, whilst there is a demand you will always get some low life trying to make money from it.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 12:32:50
This may upset people but I have to disagree with this post. I often sell of Stubhub and admittedly can sell above face value. However this tends to be the big games only as when I cannot make the lesser games I tend to lose money. That is my right to see at what ever value I see fit because I was the one who had to fork out the money for a season ticket upfront 4 months in advance of the season starting. There is less demand for the smaller games and therefore people lose money and want to make up for that when the bigger games come round. When I sold my tickets they were a good mix of priced tickets for sale, so there was plenty of choice.

probably sell costa, he will be 28 this year, good return on investment (PSG, Napoli could be his destination) however i read he wanted to go back to spain, then again can't believe what they write now adays., surely they would get a minimum of 50 mill for him, invest in a younger player such as lukaku, and the defender they want who will cost big money like stones.
