Our ambivalence towards Rom makes total sense once you remember that supporting a football team is a head thing AND a heart thing. It's like having the hottest nympho girlfriend but knowing that she thinks she can do better and is always flirting with other guys. However much you try, bigger, richer, better looking guys are always sniffing round her and she always seems interested. You know you should dump her but she's so hot and giving you regular good times. You'd have more money if you broke up but it's hard to let go. Would you really be happier with a nice girl, not as fit or randy but who appreciates being with you? Therein lies the dilemma.

I would rather have someone with better ball control. šŸ˜.

And it's not so bad if you think you might get two for the price of one.

11 May 2017 09:33:20
Yes but you'll probably find that one of the two looks the part but just can't perform and the other is a bit plain but a good alrounder.

Has to be the best analogy of the Lukaku situation I have ever heard!

Went to the U23s final game v Liverpool-whilst we did not deserve to lose--we looked distinctly average--must be a very poor league if we are the best.

Very few if any of that team will make the first team inc Pennington who looked very poor on the night.

bluewirralboy you need to lighten up lad. Your last 3 posts have depressed me no end. According to you we have a crap youth team a crap first team, a striker that must be sold at all costs. A winger not worth a contract extension. Least the pies are good at half time eh. No don't tell me, yours was cold.

10 May 2017 17:01:39
Toffee ace--my half- time pie was not cold-jus past its sell by date--just like half our squad.

10 May 2017 17:39:44
Tbh Wirral, we had won the league so no point overdoing anything. Our u23s have beaten some good sides this season. Did ok in checkatrade trophy if I remember rightly. A league is marathon not a sprint so we won it fair and square. Well done boys.

10 May 2017 19:24:29
Quite right Geoff. It's getting bad when our team who have just won their league are being slated. I know it's frustrating losing to that lot any time but Jesus we won the league!

If any Club bids Ā£75m for Rom we should snap their hands off
-technically very poor
-thinks he is bigger than EFC
-can only play one way
-cannot play with his back to goal

Get rid before this contract runs down and his value is reduced.

Steady on if he is not that good, how come he's top goalscorer

Technically improved this season in my opinion, holds ball up much better.

He does not think he's bigger than us, he wants to play highest level which is ambition no more than koeman wants to manage Barcelona and holland one day.

He is not the same type of striker as an Aguero but goals talk.

We play to his strengths like most teams do with there strikers

Only sell for top dollar.

Mirallas to sign a new long term contract--what a joke he has been very poor this season--and simply not good enough The following need to be shipped out to make way for a complete squad overhaul--Jags Barry Williams McCarthy Besic Robles SttenburgRom and Barkley--the current squad is no better than 7th--If Koeman and Moshiri are seriou about CL Football in the future--they will need big plands starting this window.

We have to go careful on how many we let go we still need a big squad and there are plenty more to go that are dead wood, with Europe coming Kev will be important player for us, although I was surprised we offered new contract.
Get rid of players that don't contribute or play
Mcgeady
Garbutt- before anyone shoots me down, he won't make top level grade, no nearer first team than he was 3 years ago
I have a feeling jags will go, we have Williams for experience, jags has had a decade here and a wonderful time but noes the probably the time to go as I think he can do a better job for another prem side but not where we're trying to go

I think this will be a very defining summer for us not saying we will win or get top 4 but I do see this summer being where it all began and when we are sitting in our new stadium we will all look back on it.

By everyone opinions on the Lukaku arguements it sounds like u would like to see us with a striker like Shane Long he works hard, has a decent touch, presses back line and runs the channels.

Everything everyone is arguing for that Lukaku doesn't do.

Lukaku had 24 league goals this season but Shane Long has scored 22 goals since 2014 in all competitions.

I remember our discussions on here about stones. A defenders job is to defend so why isn't Lukaku job to score goals?

Come on lads. I know he is going to go but no chance do we want to replace him with that sort of player we need another goal scorer.

Hopefully this Sandro is coming an he has come from a good back ground and is young.

But I for one would have a striker who knows where the net is over a high work rate one. If we can get both of them attributes even better but they are rare.

Look at what Pep Guardiola is trying to do with Aguero trying to get him to close the ball down etc.

I'd imagine Jimbobchaddy we would look to take in 2 strikers. One goal scorer and one all round player. Can't see why can't each of those. Especially with Walsh at the healm.

Not sure how many people actually want Rom to leave but from what said on this forum I think the majority would like him to stay if possible but would not be overly concerned if he left if the money used brought in two good strikers. I personally would rather see Rom stay and a second striker bought in to challenge him not be just a squad player. However, I do have a lot of confidence in the club management so am happy for them to make the decisions without being unduly concerned.

I think he is a good player.

Agree NBTB no point in keeping Rom if he doesn't want to be here, I reckon we should get top dollar for him, and get. a couple in that do want to play for the Club, GuernseyBlue.

Lukaku was looking for a move when he first walked through the doors.
Let him go, up until a few weeks ago Ross was the leading chance creator in Europe, so he should be scoring goals.

He is good but he's not great, and as the saying goes there's plenty more fish in the sea.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 May 2017 16:18:10
Pretty much everyone thinks that. Keeping a player against his will just won't work. I want Rom to stay as much as anyone. Putty he doesn't feel the same way.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 May 2017 20:52:54
Not sure why you would pick Long. I think we want a striker like Lukaku not Long but one that doesn't just do it against poorer teams. A Lukaku that realises he is the lone striker and has to learn how to play with his back to goal, hold the ball up and make intelligent runs for the attacking players in the team throughout 90 minutes.

He's got goals in him but as lone striker you have to give more.

Love to know how many goals Defoe would have scored for Everton this season, my guessing around the 20 plus mark, would take him on a free even now.

Trouble with barkley, Mirallas, Delefeu, and some others is you don't know what you are going to get. no consistency, and what makes great teams is knowing that rarely do the individuals in it have a run of bad games consecutively. At 29 you'd have thought four year deal quite sufficient. and Mirallas has to do a lot to win over majority of fans and convince them that he is going to hurt the opposition week in week out.
Hope we see at least five exciting buys but give some of our homegrown talent in u23s a look in at pre season stage. Oscar.

Tbh i think lukaku an barkley are great players but if they don't won't to play for the club can we jusy push them a side on the transfer list an wait for the right offer i have been a fan of barkley for a wile but am starting to relise he offers very little in yhe 10 role for me to much passing sideways an not attacking the back 4 an having a go lukaku on other hand let's face it he scores goals for fun apart from tha is touch is terrible and he doesn't look in yhe ryt frame of mind and tha affects the team to many stories about the 2 of them leaving personally i think barkley can easy be replaced an lukaku will be HARDto replace let's just hope this steve walsh can find us a striker because we need one badly no back up.
